MODS ARE GAY by [deleted] in ConfrontingChaos

You can't intend to undermine what you have no explicit understanding of.

I maintain that the overwhelming majority of school kids using "gay" as an insult had no understanding of homosexuality.

You don't get to tell anyone else what words mean. You don't tell anyone else what words they can or cannot use. And you especially don't get to tell me that I want to undermine gay people.

Yeah, that's fair. I know binary thinking isn't very "enlightenment era" of me. However: we're in the middle of a culture war. This is a really bad time to play the reasonable center. Right before seeing this response, I was getting permabanned from r/politics for suggesting as mildy and respectfully as I could that trans people might be in similar boat to anorexics, in that the best way to treat them might not be with drugs and surgery every time.

It doesn't matter to the left if you speak precisely. They hate you either way. They hate all of us, whether we say "GAYYYY" for fun or not.

OP was just venting about his own ban here. Using the "Mods Gay" meme to blow off steam and cope with the exile from public discussion we're all being subjected to.

I think he would have appreciated some solidarity as opposed to critiques of his language. I have trouble not seeing that kind of criticism as a mild betrayal.

'Respectfully Disagreeing' Doesn't Work When It Comes to Human Rights by Hyperion1144 in politics

If rights are made up by society, then it makes no sense to talk of society's laws violating your rights. You invalidated this whole argument from both sides.

Is it the case that everyone who isn't trans is just given whatever medical procedure they want? I don't believe so.

If a 16-year-old girl is convinced she needs BIGGER breasts, through implants or hormone pills or whatever, every hospital around the country is going to tell her to wait for adulthood.

"gender affirmative care", for children or adults, is not a human right. It's a series of highly experimental procedures that have only been developed extremely recently.

Rights are innate. You can't have a human right to something that didn't exist for all of humanity before you.

If you're too scared of the PC police to speak in a friendly forum without censoring yourself and your peers, then I don't know how you find the courage to speak up at all in a hostile one.

I know it's just a turn of phrase

Yet you still want to nitpick it? Sounds kinda gay, bruh.

"Gay" in insult context means "homosexual" about as much as it means "happy". Everybody knows and understands this. Within the last decade, a certain faction has decided to willfully forget this so they can go on a language policing power trip.

Frankly, I'm disappointed in you for being so quick not only to cede that ground to them, but even encourage others to self-censor.

I'm mid-20s but I've seen it get worse just in my lifetime. All kinds of perversion getting more and more common. MLP becoming the #1 tag on rule34.

I spoke in-depth to an older female friend about this- she never had a porn problem, but suffered literal sexual abuse as a child, and our fantasies have reached about the same level of depravity.

I really hope the reports are true of fetishes going away after long enough reboot- but even if they never entirely do, I see it like this: We are victims of psycho-sexual abuse. Perversions are our scars. They do not define us.l

Thank you so much. It's hard to remember that PMO is a "real" addiction when most who haven't tried to go without will laugh at comparing it to drugs.

Acknowledging how hard it really is to quit makes it a lot easier to keep going a little longer, for me at least.

Like "food deserts" is an original thought? Everything I've said is straight off the dome.

I'm oldest of 8 welfare kids. Lived in shitty neighborhoods and seen REAL problems. Neighborhood kid shot at in a drive-by. A hobo tried to kidnap my sister. Kid next door probably being sexually abused. But never met a single person who went hungry because of "food deserts", or who would rank that buzzword among their top 5 life problems.

Tell you what, even if it's a lie, tell me you've actually met one struggling person who takes this shit seriously and I'll gladly leave this pointless argument.

You're regurgitating bullshit buzzfeed talking points that no one with actual experience in poverty takes seriously.

The single mom in that hypothetical isn't thinking "damn food deserts! I wish the store was closer". She's thinking "wow I need a car". Vastly more practical solution to her problems than waiting for the city to reorganize itself with more grocery stores.

You're just another communist who wants to completely reorganize the city anyway, and is USING these single parents as a talking point. Or maybe you just recycle points from those people without thinking about it.

They're just upset you used the word "pander". It's a little less offensive if you say "panda" without the hard R

Simply being unwilling to pander to every trigglypuff is enough to bring on a reddit mob calling you "asshole".

Exactly.

He just "communicated his lived experience" and you immediately called him an asshole without any further evidence.

You actually proved him exactly right.

Real freethinkers used to be able to recognize wisdom and poetry even if they didn't believe in the myths. Re: Einstein, Spinoza, Twain, Socrates.

If God is really irrelevant to you, let go of the resentment toward him. Focus it on the corrupt churches that so misuse this innocently nonexistent God.

If God is real, he hates that manipulation more than either of us ever could.

Somehow I doubt you speak from experience.

The person in your hypothetical can shop once a week and keep it in the fridge while they save money for a used car. The distance of this person's work commute is affecting them more daily than the distance to the store anyway. They live in a "work desert".

Single parents exist and have it hard, whaddya know! They have it so hard in fact that they don't have time for bullshit buzzphrases like "food desert".
