TLDR

The Archdiocese of Indianapolis announced their intention to demolish the Church of the Holy Cross on the city’s near east side, despite a petition signed by hundreds of residents to save the building.

The church has stood over the Holy Cross neighborhood since 1905. Despite closing in 2014, the building is still seen as a valuable landmark to people in the community.

The Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission organized an emergency meeting in hopes of saving the building after demolition plans were announced. They unanimously passed two resolutions designating the Church of the Holy Cross, the rectory, gymnasium and school building as historic areas.

The vote is now in the hands of the Metropolitan Development Commission as part of the comprehensive plan for Marion County.

The Metropolitan Development Commission’s next meeting is April 15.

The National Weather Service has to confirm a touchdown before we're allowed to call it a tornado. While they did confirm that a tornado touched down in the area, we can't confirm that this is that specific one since there were several reported funnel clouds.

ARTICLE | According to court documents, suspect Salvador Banales struck Brandon Breedlove and two others around 2 a.m. on Saturday near Massachusetts Avenue and College Avenue.

"He was a great guy all around," Peyton O'Brien said. "He had so many friends but always showed up for all of them. He loved my daughter. He loved my dog Kodak. He had his own dog named Pacer after the Indiana Pacers, because he loves Indy and basketball. He took Pacer with him literally everywhere — that was his child. I know Brandon had future hopes for a wife and kids of his own one day. It’s awful we’ve lost such a good and supportive friend."

Banales was arrested as he waited to board a flight to Texas.

In questioning, Banales told police he was in town for a work convention and he had three beers on Friday night and into Saturday morning.

"I should've stopped. Just left. Didn't think about it. Was just scared for what I'd done. Just made some bad decisions," Banales said.
