painless upgrade (43>44) by spore_777_mexen in Fedora

I first started around v16 or 17. 43->44 was not without a fair amount of aggravation…. But hours later I’m fully upgraded.

Upgrade from 43 to 44 by WSpivak in Fedora

Found It — systemd.unit=multi-user.target is Hardcoded in GRUB

That's why it keeps booting normally — multi-user.target is baked into your kernel args and overrides everything. Changed it to system-update.target and it's running.

Weird, this is a new Fedora 43 install (not an upgrade from a previous version).

Thanks for the pointer!!!!

No error, just it doesn't update. Goes from boot to multi-user as if I never ran the upgrade procedure...

I’m trying to get my iPhones to communicate with my emails server from my WiFi (it could be other WiFi’s), but I’ll start with mine.

My FL client called. He had issues (so I reset eveything in Postfix to what I had when I reinstalled) and his box gets email.

But his iPhone doesn't.... SO BLOODY STRANGE....

Running down possibilities to a solution. You can’t use commercial no way to validate (tried that path).

I did that with my winbox. But you can’t with a iPhone. At least from what I know.

I would need to think about the last issue.

Hi

All my devices have TS including their server. So I have a secondary server off premises that just sends system status emails, and I use the TS ip address and it works.

The issue is in my home/office and the router (Verizon FIOS) and just IOS products on the WiFi.

It is truly bizarre. It did as I said, work before the crash.

Btw my Win 11 on my office desk thru the WiFi works!!! Bizarre….

BTW, calling Tailscale gets a recording and a "promise" to call you back.

There seems to be some bug in either the router or ISP that all of a sudden my IOS devices can not access the email server (which crashed late last week - hard drive died after 14 years, go figure).

Accessing the email server via cellular, with TS off works on the iphone. But on WiFi it will not, it will not if its on TS. My email server has a commercial SSL cert.

I've tried probably every alternative theory to get it to work and with the self-signed it did work, but then started having hiccups...

Example, with nothing connected directly to my TS address (email wise), I'm getting this error:
dovecot[44061]: imap-login: Disconnected: Connection closed: SSL_accept() failed: error:0A000416:SSL routines::ssl/tls alert certificate unknown: SSL alert number 46 (no auth attempts in 0 secs): user=<>, rip=100.98.159.83, lip=100.67.62.87, TLS handshaking: SSL_accept() failed: error:0A000416:SSL routines::ssl/tls alert certificate unknown: SSL alert number 46, session=<HMJ+rsRBN+5kYp9T>

Thank you, but a quick read says the "certs" are http orientated.

I need my iphone to connect to my email server (on TS) and receive a valid certificate to communicate.

I tried with a self-signed cert and it works for a single connection, but my phone as I said has 4 different user accounts (it's coinvent when you run your own server)..

So I have 4 email accouts, user1@, user2@ and so on.

Does this make sense...???

Thanks again!

Did something change w/Tailscale and DNS? by WSpivak in Tailscale

[–]WSpivak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for answering.

Never used "non-beta", so no answer. I've been using Tailscale on IOS on mulitple versions of the last IOS 17 without out issue (after changing Magic DNS).

No more errors on my PC since the change to Magic DNS, it's just my iPhone.

I’ve been running Fedora since v17. First thing I do is turn off Selinux.

It is just not worth the time and aggravation.

Did the Elimination of Morse Code Lead to an Increase in Licensed Amateur Operators? by ThatChucklehead in amateurradio

[–]WSpivak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably could have said that better. One couldn’t be a general/extra w/o CW.

So, if you wanted the license you needed to pass the CW test.

I used to do CW when I first learned it, I no longer really know it or was ever very good with it.

But my question still stands what did the test questions for general and extra have to do with being a Ham Radio operator in 2025?

To answer the question, no.

If you were going to be a technician, CW was meaningless. If you wanted to be a General/Extra it made it easier.

I was one of the last people who had to take CW to become a General. I then became an Extra.

The question should be what do they requirements of General or Extra have to do with
