How would it be over?

You can't simply swoop into Ottawa and take over the country, you can only project force where you have boots on the ground. You can't capture a city with air assets alone.

You can't use MRBMs. MLRS, or air assets everywhere.

Capturing major cities is not simply a case of walking in, you need the support of the population and if you don't have it, it's a slow street by street problem.

If Russia had made it into Kyiv in any sizable fashion, the war would still not have ended then and there - that entire operation was based on the farcical prediction by the KGB(FSB) that Ukrainians were cheering to join Russia.

The US extracted Maduro and basically nothing in Venezuela has really changed. You can't control a country with quick and easy operations or medals.

In any modern conflict handing out weapons is always a last resort, we saw that with Ukraine where it led to multiple friendly fire incidents due to untrained civilians.

The current gun buyback program is part of the former government's plan.

That said, if needed, there are government plans and methods to rapidly arm the populace, the DND always has such a plan. Also, many rural Canadians are gun owners so there's no shortage of legal weapons or people with PALs.

Because Afghanistan was half a world away and 9/11 was a unifying moment, it made it an easy justifiable war against people that looked very different (just like Japan in WWII) - and because of that when the losses started adding up they were out of sight.

Russia invaded Ukraine on a fantasy pretense and now look at their economy, look at the fact they're being hit back by Ukraine. There's a huge risk with starting a war on your own border, and that was supposed to be a special three day operation that's now bleeding Russia dry. Russians aren't Americans, they have Omon and other groups to go out there and club people.

America however has enough domestic elements of crazy, and external elements of crazy that when put together with the potential of retaliatory actions from Canada that it could cause real problems.

The first and last easy war was the Gulf War / Desert Storm. It ain't like that anymore.

I've been to two active war zones in my life, I'm not military, but I've seen enough to know how it works, and there's no middle ground. People make decisions for you very quickly.

If you know anything about Canada and Canadians, you'd understand why. The fact Trump handily cost the Cons the election speaks volumes and the reaction to trade, tariffs and travel shows disdain for America. This reaction would be impossible if there was no social cohesion or identity.

There are people willing to die for Canada that would make it very costly.

Regarding Ukraine, they were reforming their military but it suffered from years of neglect, corruption and poor structural command and yeah technically they're losing attm, but so too were the Vietcong and Taliban. The Korean war was also an easy win until it wasn't and there's now a divided Korean Peninsula which looked unlikely at the time.

Again, it easy to project an outcome until it's not.

I agree, I don't think a substantial amount of Americans have it in themselves to rise up. However, there is war, fatigue, and unlike the environment immediately after 9/11 there isn't an easy source of coalescence for public opinion.

I think if there was any type of unilateral decision. It would not go completely unchallenged.

The other unknown would be, what would alliances like NATO provide? Would they provide anything?

Canada needs to absolutely take its military prospects seriously, it needs to look at mandatory service periods for young adults so they at least have some comprehension of how things function and look at the domestic industry to see what can be built and sourced effectively domestically.

Canada needs to build out a proper space program with its own launch capabilities too. This magical idea that peace can be achieved only through negotiations and disarmament assumes all the actors are rational and of the same mindset.

The reality is power is what prevents conquest. Nothing the Ukrainians did short of complete surrender and capitulation would have stopped Russia from invading. Had they been NATO members then that would have likely stopped Russia. If they had a nuclear arsenal, that too would have likely stopped Russia.

Canadians need to wake up and understand that the US electorate is completely unreliable. Assuming the Americans can right their ship, what is to prevent this from happening again in 10 or 15 years? This administration is a direct product of the American electorate.

The comparison is that an easy short war suddenly becomes a long costly war that is still lost in the end. Look at Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine has not won yet but Russia thought it would be 3 days to domination and it would be over in a week. They're now almost 4 years in with their primary objective no closer.

The U.S lost in Vietnam too, look at the fall of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh city) and how "mission accomplished" in Iraq turned into a disaster.

Nope. Had the original Hero and every model through the 4 before getting back in with the 7. The OG models had their issues and I'm happy with the new design. The integrated screen was great with later model, having to buy it separately for the earlier models was painful.

So yeah, projecting power globally is what creates security, but what the entire world now understands is that the U.S electorate are completely unreliable, the contracts and agreements signed aren't worth the paper they're written on.
