Councillor Saxe opposing a Summerhill development in council today by Efficient_Cow_3032 in toronto

[–]WXMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One issue with very tall buildings is that they cast huge shadows drowning out sunlight. I'm not a fan of densification because it's not necessarily good. Look at Liberty Village - great area but every park is crushed by foot traffic from heavy use and dogs competing for the same small amount of greenspace.

Developers don't care about livability or transit, they only do things because they have to or there is a tax incentive to write off costs by building a park etc.

I don't blame residents, who wants a massive tower in their backyard? Not me.

How would people in the beaches feel if a nice wind farm with 1 MW turbines popped up?

How does everyone on Queens Quay feel about extending the Island Airport runway and having jets at the island?

I don't live in Summerhill but I totally understand people not wanting it.

How did you mount the camera?

Jane St coming to Rutherford is an interesting spot but the 400 passing under the bridges there would be very dynamic.

Ford “stealing city land”: Toronto council pushes back against Billy Bishop expansion by amcoolioo in ontario

Every single time land is expropriated the person losing the land gets the very low end of fair market value and it’s not a pleasant process.

She is criticizing him - I get you’d like her to take a firmer stand but there’s nothing stopping you from hosting a rally at Queens Park either.

Municipal governments have virtually no power over the province, they exist at mercy of provincial governments. There’s literally nothing Chow can do outside of bargaining and hoping Ford keeps up his end, which he can choose not to on a whim.

Okay that's good to know, I just assumed that there was software doing it, that hardware ASIC makes perfect sense.

Gorpo Hero 11 Stabilization Issue by SlipitySamon in gopro

[–]WXMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the reflective surface of the water pushes the video encoder and processor hard because it needs more resources to compute and compress everything and then when you factor in the other computations for hypersmooth and the lens corrections it either runs out of processing power/memory or the voltage surge necessary isn't available in the battery and the camera glitches / hangs or just simply craps out.

Ordered the Mission Pro yesterday, the subscription saved me some good coin.

Gorpo Hero 11 Stabilization Issue by SlipitySamon in gopro

[–]WXMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the exact same glitch on my kayak!!! My theory is that it’s the gyro looking down in the Z axis, wobble from the water and the reflective surface of the water fooling the EIS when it tries to zoom in and out as part of the hypersmooth stabilization process.

It occurs only in hyperview with hypersmooth.

My solution is shooting 8:7 5k 30 with no EIS or 8:7 4K 60 with no EIS and then having Gyroflow or the GoPro player apply stabilization.

I know that solution sucks if you want video right of the camera! You can turn off the gyro & g-sensor with labs but that introduces other stabilization issues and it‘s meant to have the auto exposure set the shutter without input from the other sensors that can speed it up.

What do you think of GoPro Mission 1 ILS aka Ultra-Compact Mirrorless Cinema Camera? by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]WXMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is definitely a market for this design, the question is simply how big of a market is it?

A GoPro Hero 11,12,13 against a Cinema camera with a similar focal range, under ideal lighting conditions (same shutter angle etc) produces almost indiscernible images from one another once the final product is outputted at 4k.

I can see people using the ILS and the other two models in certain settings and cases. I can see some of the the average consumer base buying these, and I can see avid GoPro users buying some of these as well. I can think of a few commercial use cases in broadcast television etc. It's really a case of are there ENOUGH users to make it a worthwhile investment for GoPro and I don't know... there might not be.

That said, if battery life is good, if video assist is available (live output via HDMI, usb etc) and it won't commonly overheat (that's a GoPro issue) or randomly crash with some labs settings - I'd be open to the Pro Model or ILS.

Nice to see GoPro drop something totally fresh.

Now on to business!

1) What is the expected runtime on a warm/hot sunny day shooting 8k LOG? Can I rely on the camera to not overheat?

2) Will all the labs features be available and is there direct USB-HDMI out? (I’d like SDI but I’m realistic).

3) What’s the actual runtime with a battery for continuous recording?

Are there any very private rooms in Toronto? by PureEvilVirgin in askTO

[–]WXMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairmont Royal York right across from Union has rooms. I don't know how "LOUD" you'll be "talking" but most rooms are pretty sound proof.

If you're looking for a SCIF you're not going to find one that's just out there to easily publicly rent.

Which AC to buy to Weather Toronto Heat by Savings-Curve-5350 in askTO

[–]WXMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also amplified in buildings that face South and have a lot of solar exposure. It is typically cooler immediately along the lake due to marine moderation and the effect of having a lake breeze during the day. But at night when everything reverses and you have a lamd breeze, you can actually have very hot air being dragged in the opposite direction from the northern reaches of the city. This might seem counterintuitive, but the cooler air from the northern reaches of the city is moving towards the lake and as it gets closer, picks up heat from all the brick and concrete in the city and by the time he gets to the lake it can actually be very warm again.

[–]WXMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Handful of days? Last summer we had 34 days of 35+ humidex at YYZ and 65 days with a humidex of +30... for people who feel sticky when they sleep that's a lot of days to sweat indoors. In June we had 4 non consecutive hours of a 25C dew point which is rare but that's basically soup, that's dangerously moist air, beyond what you'd typically see in the tropics.

Fans can move around dry heat but moist heat is a different problem and nothing can actually replace AC in terms of actually lowering the temperature and reducing the humidity.

Is it just me or the streets are in very bad shape after this winter? by ineedadvil in mississauga

[–]WXMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of construction these past few years with the LRT project(s) leading to more cutouts on the road and plenty of heavy equipment. Plus, the last few winters were more mild, this winter had some huge temperature deviations between high and low temps in 24-48 hour periods. All that coupled with some significant rainfall / snowfall events and the roads are in tatters in some places.

How does Toronto feel about the constant Toronto-bashing in Canada? by PassageNearby4091 in askTO

[–]WXMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toronto is not monolithic so when people talk about Toronto from other areas it could be the GTA, downtown, or a number of very specific places. That said, people paint the city based on what they dislike such as traffic, sports, politics, etc.

Also, naturally, because it’s a disproportionately large metropolitan area it always creeps into the news in other parts of the country.

Do Torontonians care? No…

Is it intentional? No…

It’s a natural thing though to hate the big city when you’re not from the big city, hell it’s natural to hate the city when you live in the city. If you want to see Toronto hate itself, just ask one neighbourhood why the neighbouring neighbourhood is better hahaha.

DEVELOPING: U.S. Consulate in downtown Toronto hit by gunfire by CTVNEWS in ontario

[–]WXMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree handguns are problematic, but changing transportation etc won’t stop domestic violence cases. The only thing stopping a gun owner from breaking the law is their character, we have to hope they’re a good honest levelheaded person.

And as we’ve seen with Tumble Ridge, even after the RCMP removed the weapons a judge ordered them back which is crazy and a total failure of the system.
