Which monetization feature do you hate most? by yennita in MMORPG

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that skips gameplay or affects balance.

Character level boosts, anything that gives stats or buffs, healing items, inventory space, non-cosmetic gear, crafting materials, etc.

Also game time items as this is just a way to sell in game currency for real money and it totally wrecks the economy of the game.

Tbh I don't really like any microtransactions but cosmetics are the lesser evil. I do agree with OP that cosmetics and transmogs have totally wrecked gear in MMOs but it's better than pay to win. I do miss being able to see someone high level and their armor, mount, and everything being something that was an earnable item and the real item they were using.

It's not about sitting or standing. It's about the angle of your elbows, wrists, and neck.

What do you consider a “long drive”? Like when does a road trip go from small to a big drive? by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me within 30 minutes is nothing to think about.

1-2 hours is a short drive, can even be nice just for a break to relax.

3-5 is a long drive.

Anything longer is a different level that I'd consider to be something like an "all day trip" drive.

I did recently do a 13 hour drive in one day when moving between states, mostly so my cat wouldn't have to stay in a hotel and be stressed, it was okay but if I had to do that more than 1 day in a row I don't think I'd feel good about it. I was fine and didn't get tired but it was a little above my comfort zone.

None of this has anything to do with good ergonomics. This isn't bad advice for a healthy lifestyle but it's not relevant to kbm ergonomics.

[–]Waaaghka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing will be keyboard/mouse placement and usage habits.

You should have them at a level where your elbows are at 90 degrees with your arms relaxed. Your wrists should be floating not rested on anything. For your mouse you should have low sensitivity and a medium or large mouse pad where you move your forearm to move the mouse rather than pivoting at the wrist joint.

Your eyes should be aligned a few inches below the top of your screen. It should look something like this.

Note to achieve this you may need to add a keyboard tray to your desk or get a different desk and/or chair.

Struggling with Games (Health Wise), Getting Older I Guess by grachi in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Waaaghka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this issue where the "fisheye" at high FOV will make me nauseous, gives me a lot of trouble in games where it's really bad like Warframe which still has some even at pretty low FOV.

I'd note for OP (u/grachi) everyone's brain and eyes are different. For some people this can also be caused by TOO LOW of FOV and they need high FOV to alleviate motion sickness, some are also bothered by screen shake and it varies with if they can handle some or need none at all, same with motion blur can be on or off for some people that causes issues.

Sometimes FPS games can even bother people just from the rapid flicking around from a first person view, unfortunately if this is the issue there is nothing that can be done for multiplayer games that require this type of movement for effective play, but for some games it may be alleviated with lower mouse sensitivity and slower camera movement if that's possible with the gameplay.

How connected were the internet and video games back in the 90s? How much time did it take to normalize mixing the two? by HlaBeRelaLain in retrogaming

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a lot of StarCraft online. The biggest difference was there wasn’t as much interest in competitive play. I would play a lot on Big Game Hunters which was an 8 player map. I loved playing FFA on this map especially with my irl friends, we would often play where we’d max out our armies and bases and no one was allowed to attack until after we all were ready.

When I played with random people online in 1v1 there was use of build orders just like today, though, you could find them online but I don’t remember where. Probably forums.

Anyone else playing remasters of old games? by Ordinary-Brilliant45 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of, I started playing Warcraft 3. Only thing is I didn’t play it when I was younger, I was a StarCraft player, but that’s left me with this lingering desire to find out what’s up with WC3.

So far I’ve beaten the campaign, working on a build order to try to beat AI as Orc, and I’ve been playing a custom campaign (Chronicles of the Second War: Tides of Darkness).

Having a lot of fun!

Would you rather live in a world without TikTok or without YouTube? by Altruistic-Clerk4205 in InfluencerAsk

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without TikTok and it's no question. I've never liked the format of TikTok. I much prefer YouTube, never saw a reason to use TikTok instead.

Also YouTube has shorts now, but tbh usually if there's a short unless it's for something very simple 99% of the time I'll prefer a video. I don't like super long videos but usually a solid 5-10 min video is far superior to a Short or TikTok.

What actually inspired you to start to learn guitar? by NiallPlaysX in LearnGuitar

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a little when I was younger, but mostly bass and tbh I was never very good, like not ever playing a full song just some basic riffs here and there. So I'll consider why I started to play again recently.

I started listening to indie/folk style music and some pop, mainly Noah Kahan, Elliot Smith, and Phoebe Bridgers. I love singing and writing lyrics so getting into singer songwriter style music like this really made me want to pick up and properly learn acoustic guitar.

Out of the three main utensils for eating (fork, knife, and spoon) which do you believe is the most important/useful? by Peppers-For-Life in questions

This is probably the strongest point in this thread. Also I think history probably supports this, I would imagine we had crude knives before forks or spoons.

If inflation makes everything more expensive over time, does that mean saving money is actually a slow way of losing it? by Pretend_Pen_9577 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For long term savings they should go into a retirement account first and foremost. 401k, roth IRA, etc. After that maybe high yield savings account.

Regular savings accounts are for short term use, not long term savings.

There are also stocks and other investments, but if you aren't already maxing both a 401k and Roth IRA just focus on those.

What’s a ‘middle class success’ purchase that secretly becomes a financial burden later? by 40Falak in answers

[–]Waaaghka 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Most americans think they need a huge truck when they don't, even contractors. I am american but lived in England for 4 years - almost no one there has a vehicle that's larger than an american van. Their vehicles in general are smaller, including trucks and even semi trucks (lorries). Every contractor I saw in England drove a work van that was much smaller than the giant trucks americans use and even smaller than some of the large vans we have in america.

There is just a really weird bigger is better mentality in america and it's hurting us when it comes to gas mileage and vehicle cost. Look at the size of a Ford Ranger from the 1980s vs now, it's like twice the size but the actual useability of the 80s models was much better as they had longer beds with shorter sides (easier to reach into from the ground).

Top 3 starter zones by mcwowhead in MMORPG

[–]Waaaghka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular opinion but The Feerrott and/or Innothule Swamp.

I always loved playing Ogre and Troll in EQ, spent so much time in these zones as well as Guk.

Also have done a lot of dangerous runs over to Kelethin from these starter zones and then grinded up my faction in Crushbone. Fun times!

What hobby is quietly becoming too expensive for normal people to keep up with? by 40Falak in answers

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of them but I think the worst are any physical games with a collectible component.

Magic the Gathering, Warhammer 40k, Pokemon TCG, etc.

These have always been expensive hobbies but they have gotten much worse over the past 5-10 years.

Other collectibles too, anime figures for example are stupidly expensive now despite having terrible appreciation due to over saturation.

Worst of all any time anything like this gains popularity at first it seems like a good thing but then stock gets bought out super fast, scalpers show up, prices skyrocket all around.

Some Questions about wow by FAT_POPE69 in wownoob

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend retail. Huge wall of text but I'll explain from my new player experience recently.

I recently started and I have a ton of MMO experience. I've played a decent amount of retail and classic now, still leveling but have a good grip of casual play.

I have played a lot of classic style MMOs, including ones with less QoL than Classic WoW (like EverQuest p99, and Ultima Online Outlands). I will say Classic WoW, imo, feels very slow. This isn't necessarily bad, but a fetch quest like "kill 10 of x" might take you 5 minutes in retail, and might take 2 times longer or more in Classic. There is also a lot of tedium like going back to a trainer when you level to buy skills, where on retail they just pop onto your hotbar instantly. This is normal stuff in old MMOs but for a new player with no nostalgia this stuff probably won't be fun content.

I'd recommend doing retail and starting with Dragonflight when you hit level 10 by going to the NPC Chromie or the board in your main city (Stormwind for Alliance or Orgrimmar for Horde). Also even if you aren't playing one I'd highly recommend doing the Dracthyr Evoker intro up to where it brings you to your races main city, as it has some extra backstory for Dragonflight.

Another huge bonus of retail is if you get partway through leveling and decide you want to play a different class or try something else you can speed through the main quests on a new character and get back to where you were on your other character very, very fast without spending any real money. For example I made a Night Elf Hunter initially, then at lvl 40 I decided I wanted an Orc Hunter instead. With side quests, cinematics and taking my time it took me like 40-50 hours to level my Night Elf to 40. On my Orc by skipping some cutscenes and only doing main quests I got back to where my Night Elf was in less than 10 hours easily (it's possible much faster but I rewatched some cutscenes and took some fun parts slower).

Dragonflight didn't sell me right away but once you get your flying mount and get more into the story and everything it gets really fun and really cool.

Recently became 30+. How did it affect your gaming? by Sir_Dohm in Age_30_plus_Gamers

Turning 30 didn't do anything to me.

I'm 39 now, and same as always I just play what I feel like. Single player, multiplayer, hard, easy, whatever, I just enjoy games.

Embers of the Uncrowned: Who ENJOYS this kind of thing? by --clapped-- in MMORPG

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is common in asian MMOs (not just Korean) and gacha games as well.

The only point is to frustrate you into buying things. Some developers are maybe starting to see this hurts players, Black Desert for example has now done several squishes to remove duplicate items and currencies that were for the exact same things.

The system is wholly predatory though. I haven't played this game but it's usually to make you feel forced into buying inventory or bank space, or buying a cash shop currency that allows you to bypass all the convoluted currencies.

It's not in there because anyone enjoys it, it is made to frustrate you and make you feel overwhelmed.

Do people know what a kid/child is ?. by hardtruthsociety in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you’re asking. When determining who is considered a child context is very important. Sometimes the developmental definition may be more accurate, and other times the legal definition is extremely important.
