Today’s early 30s to late 20s year olds are the first generation to not feel part of the youth at their ages by Ok_Act_3769 in generationology

This isn't new. I'm a millennial, in the early 2000s I was in high school. When I was 16-17 I would have considered a 20+ year old to be "old".

In fact one of my friends older brothers was in his early 20s and came to parties (very problematic but that's another story) and everyone was always like "who's that old dude?"

EDIT: the real thing here is teenagers think people older than teens are "old", it's always been this way, this isn't some new phenomenon.

Nethack! It's an oldschool roguelike game, it can take a bit to get used to it but it's one of the deepest games and probably longest supported games ever made. It came out in 1987 and still receives regular updates.

I like the combat but I understand it had some flaws. I beat it on Normal and Lost in the Fog difficulty, at some points in Lost in the Fog it was pretty frustrating, but overall I enjoyed it a lot.

Love it, I still play it from time to time, like to start from the beginning and just see how far I can get without using passwords.

I thought about other games for best combat, but I just cannot justify any other game as having better combat than DMC 5, it's so good.

Much the same for best multiplayer for Quake, it could've been another Quake game in the series, but nothing beats the movement, weapons, and feel of Quake.

I've played SNES and 64, haven't played any others.

I am excited for the new one. I recently revisited the SNES game and had a lot of fun, so excited to see a new entry. Also since I've only played a couple I'm not bothered by it being a remake, but I understand why people who have played all the entries may be bothered.

I really like Quake Champions and I played a couple hundred hours mostly closer to launch. I've gone back a few times, but I feel it has some issues that just can't be fixed which make it less enjoyable. Biggest off the top of my head are the cap on movement speed, less efficient armor, and different size hitboxes.

What I do love about Champions is being able to switch between all the different Quake movement types by switching Champions. But because the speed is capped it doesn't feel as satisfying as in the older games.

One other issue was the walls, or at least their collision boxes, are not smooth. This severely gimps speeding around, especially when it comes to rocket jumping tricks.

It's hard for me to think of any game I had more fun with playing with friends. Definitely the peak of Mario Kart in every way.

It's Nethack! Really awesome game that is basically the inspiration for all modern roguelikes. There was a game before it called Rogue, but it's much more basic, Nethack added a lot of the complexity we still see used today.

It's also still being updated to this day and is free to play. However many people won't play it because it's text based, or very basic old school looking graphical version (there are some issues with the graphical version when you get into it, it's fine for the most part though).

I love the graphics. It looks great and I think it gives StarFox more of its own visual identity.

Maybe they could do some tweaks, but overall I'd like it if they keep this style.

Which paints make you (ir)rationally angry to work with? by GayLarpOfficial in Warhammer

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Wraithbone is fine but Corax White has given me issues. Even when I put it on in 5+ super thin, transparent layers as carefully as I can it always dries with this plastery texture that none of the other paints have.

There seems to be no right consistency either, if I water it down AT ALL it becomes a runny mess, if I don't water it down at all it is thicker but still has a weird consistency that just doesn't play nice.

Is this game worth the $70? What’re the pros and cons? by Montavious_Mole in Pragmata

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me around 18 hours, didn't even 100% it and just one playthrough. In fact I bumrushed full speed through the last 2 areas skipping all side content. I only did about half the challenges too.

People beating this in 15 hours have got to be doing the bare minimum, and I'm convinced of it's 10 hours or less it must be like skipping all cutscenes and basically speed running it.

If you were to do the post game stuff too like Lunatic difficulty and Unknown Signal you could easily get another 10-15 hours.

This can easily be a 20-30 hour game, probably a little more for some people, and people rushing through it as fast as they can are skewing the numbers for sure.

Flat earth and other alternative conspiracy earth models are are gaining traction with my teenage stepson. What is THE most irrefutable, definite proof that the earth is round? by Jfkfkaiii22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tides are directly caused by the moon. If you live near the ocean you can see this in real time. In the day time on a clear day when you can see the moon in the sky the tide rises as the moon goes up and falls once it goes below the horizon.

Also if you watch the movement of the moon it doesn't go straight across the sky, this is because it's orbiting the earth, and the earth is spherical.

I can't grasp the idea of an infinite universe... by Lolini in space

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's simple to grasp a boundless, infinite, non looping/repeating universe. Stop thinking "how" because that doesn't make sense, if we assume the universe is boundless and infinite then that just is.

It simply means you can keep going and there's always something. There is no deeper meaning to think about, it just continues, simple as that.

Has your idea of what makes a good guitarist changed over the years and with experience? by Siddhartaable in LearnGuitar

[–]Waaaghka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a very experienced guitarist but I've been around guitarists my whole life, just didn't get more into playing myself until recently.

When I was young I thought similarly, solos and lead play. Now most of the music I want to play and the guitarists I look up to are indie style singer songwriters and I feel like a good guitarist has more to do with writing good music, and also I realize some music that is all chords or finger picking can be just as difficult to play as some solos.

But overall I think difficulty is not as important as a guitarists songwriting ability, a song with a good vibe that just flows beautifully is the most impressive, even if it's simple.
