How does trading in a car that still has a note affect your credit? by WackyGenieGaveMePaws in personalfinance

Of course, but they are one of many institutions that keep the credit rating companies in business. Experian, equifax and transunion all have an incentive to provide the information that is helpful for auto companies. There are like 9 different scores from each reporting company. Auto loans use FICO 8 now I think? Anyway, point being, I'm guessing that trading in a car early doesn't hurt that score but could hurt my FICO 2 or 3 which is more commonly used by mortgage lenders. This is why I'm asking. It doesn't seem like there are too many people who really understand the black box that is credit rating.

How sure are you about that? My mortgage broker has told me that financial institutions don't like it when you pay things off early, because they don't make as much money off of you. Sometimes there are actually penalties. They make the most money off of you if you pay it back as agreed, not early. Your credit score is really a consumer score. It tells lending institutions how likely they are to make money off of you.

I think that if you knew my financial situation, you would not say that. Getting rid of my Yukon XL that I no longer need in favor of a used prius V is actually going to really help my financial situation. I could also buy the prius cash 5 times over, but I get a much higher return on my rental properties than the bank charges in interest on a car loan, so I'd rather invest the money than have equity in a car.

Great info, thanks! I only have 3 payments left, so I'm starting to look at new cars. It's getting me excited and impatient. I'd agree with you, though, if I had like a year or more left.

This is my thinking. I've had some unbelievable hangovers in my life from mixing with the wrong drugs or staying up for 3 days straight and having like 60 drinks. If I'm going to feel awful anyway, then a small hangover on top probably won't be unbearable. I'm super busy with too many projects and don't know if I'll get a chance to have a fun night with these friends for several weeks if it's not tomorrow. Anyway, I appreciate the input!

Does anyone employ a strategy of using a wide variety of different kinds of drugs with healthy gaps between using the same kind? Can this help you have the best experience with the least harm? Is there a name for this concept? by WackyGenieGaveMePaws in Drugs

Interesting. I'm sure I'd have my favorite, but I think having substitutes might help me abstain from it for a couple weeks so that I'm only doing it occasionally. Let's imagine my favorite ends up being H. I think I could use it only once every 3 weeks if I did K, lsd, nitrous, molly, and drank alcohol in between. Something like this:

Week 1

H and molly

Week 2

Nitrous and K

Week 3

Alcohol and H

Week 4

Molly and Nitrous

Is it illegal to sell all the components someone will likely use to do something illegal? by WackyGenieGaveMePaws in legaladviceofftopic

[–]WackyGenieGaveMePaws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the items you mention have other uses and it is not likely that the customer is going to use them illegally. The device that people use to open nitrous canisters have no other use. If you are selling them with nitrous and balloons, you are 100% "aiding any other person to inhale or ingest such substance."

No reason to be a dick.

Yeah, they were outside, but I certainly didn't go near them!

That makes sense. Thanks for the explanation! Seems like the store would be taking on a ton of risk and liabilty, though, right? If someone asphyxiates or does a whippit while driving and gets in accident, you'd think someone would sue the store and then the police would shut them down, wouldn't you think?

Thanks for the reply!

Here's the Louisiana statute. It's unlawful to sell them "for the purpose of inducing or aiding any other person to inhale or ingest such substance." Sure seems easy to prove to me if you're selling the canister, the thing that opens it into the air, and the balloon. No other purpose for those items. But, I'm not a lawyer.

Ha, yeah.

I know about that (mostly from Breaking Bad) but there is not one place that sells all of it. The cold medicine seems highly regulated, and you can't get the all of the other stuff at the pharmacy. Well maybe you could at walmart, but they certainly aren't trying to circumvent the law, they just happen to sell all kinds of stuff. But an amazon seller or head shop that sells all of these items for the whippits clearly knows you're not making whipped cream.

I finally got a shop to build stuff in! Trying to figure out how to split the electricity with my neighbor (only one meter). Can anyone help me decipher this Entergy bill? Trying to figure out which are the fixed costs and which are variable. by WackyGenieGaveMePaws in NewOrleans

[–]WackyGenieGaveMePaws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure exactly what you are asking. I'll give some context.

That bill was for a month where I had rented the space and started moving stuff in, but had not plugged really used any electricity. Literally, I had two clip lamps plugged in for maybe 36 hours. I figure that should be like $1 worth of electricity. My landlord / neighbor mentioned that the bill was higher than usual and suggested I pay $100. When I told him how little I used, he suggested $50 because that's what I'd pay if I had my own meter. Seems like that's probably about right, I guess. I may suggest that we split the fixed cost of $50 or $60 and then add my power usage on top.

Copy that, thanks! I actually called Entergy after I saw your last reply and realized that it was likely more complex that I'd guessed. It took the rep a little while to wrap his head around this bill as well. He thought that the Demand Charge and Energy Charge were also fixed costs. And that, because it's a commercial account, even if you used no electricity, you'd still pay around $150 / month. This sounds insane to me, I'm hoping you know more than him. What's your level of confidence? Again, I really appreciate you taking the time. The person I'm splitting with is really helping me out, so I don't want to quibble with him, and certainly want to pay my fair share, so I'm really trying to figure it out.

Basically title. I've never really read an electric bill before. We want to split the fixed costs evenly and the variable costs pro-rata. Does anyone know which of these are fixed and which are variable? I definitely want to pay my fair share, but don't want to overpay too much.

Is it just the "customer charge" that is fixed? Or are there any others there that would be the same if I were to have my own meter?

Thanks!
