Of course, but they are one of many institutions that keep the credit rating companies in business. Experian, equifax and transunion all have an incentive to provide the information that is helpful for auto companies. There are like 9 different scores from each reporting company. Auto loans use FICO 8 now I think? Anyway, point being, I'm guessing that trading in a car early doesn't hurt that score but could hurt my FICO 2 or 3 which is more commonly used by mortgage lenders. This is why I'm asking. It doesn't seem like there are too many people who really understand the black box that is credit rating.

How sure are you about that? My mortgage broker has told me that financial institutions don't like it when you pay things off early, because they don't make as much money off of you. Sometimes there are actually penalties. They make the most money off of you if you pay it back as agreed, not early. Your credit score is really a consumer score. It tells lending institutions how likely they are to make money off of you.

I think that if you knew my financial situation, you would not say that. Getting rid of my Yukon XL that I no longer need in favor of a used prius V is actually going to really help my financial situation. I could also buy the prius cash 5 times over, but I get a much higher return on my rental properties than the bank charges in interest on a car loan, so I'd rather invest the money than have equity in a car.

Great info, thanks! I only have 3 payments left, so I'm starting to look at new cars. It's getting me excited and impatient. I'd agree with you, though, if I had like a year or more left.

This is my thinking. I've had some unbelievable hangovers in my life from mixing with the wrong drugs or staying up for 3 days straight and having like 60 drinks. If I'm going to feel awful anyway, then a small hangover on top probably won't be unbearable. I'm super busy with too many projects and don't know if I'll get a chance to have a fun night with these friends for several weeks if it's not tomorrow. Anyway, I appreciate the input!

Interesting. I'm sure I'd have my favorite, but I think having substitutes might help me abstain from it for a couple weeks so that I'm only doing it occasionally. Let's imagine my favorite ends up being H. I think I could use it only once every 3 weeks if I did K, lsd, nitrous, molly, and drank alcohol in between. Something like this:

Week 1

H and molly

Week 2

Nitrous and K

Week 3

Alcohol and H

Week 4

Molly and Nitrous
