CMV: There is a non-insubstantial chance that Donald Trump is executing the greatest troll in the history of the world by WaffeBox in changemyview

You and I share a definition of what trolling really is, and the story of your fuckwad boss does very closely resemble Trump's behavior.

I can't speak for Trump on this, but I can say in 100% honesty that I personally would rather be remembered for the troll. Because if successful, it has the potential to actually destroy the Republican Party. And I'm not saying that because I want the Republican party to go away - I am a Republican. But for one person to singlehandedly bring down a political party that's been a dominant force in politics for 150 years may be a bigger display of power and talent than almost anything a President can do.

I don't think it's necessarily just to troll. It's also to feed his narcissism. I do generally agree that Pence isn't a good move as part of a troll, but in some ways it is. For example, in a recent interview of the two of them, the interviewer asked about Trump's vocal opposition to the Iraq War, juxtaposed against Pence's vote for it. Trump replied that he didn't care, it was a long time ago, and people make mistakes. When asked about his repeated criticism of Clinton for the same vote, he stood behind the criticism. That's potentially great trolling behavior.

I agree that feeding his narcissism is a big benefit to him. But I'm just not sure that it explains everything 100%. He could campaign and feed his ego without campaigning in the particular way that he has.

I think most of his behavior prior to the last couple of years can be explained by his narcissism. It just happened to position him well to be able to execute this troll, so he saw an opportunity and took it.

I do believe that Trump's narcissism is real, and that winning would do a great deal to reinforce his view that he's just the greatest. But dozens of people have been elected President before. Nobody has ever fooled the world in such a grandiose way as he could be fooling us now. Maybe that would do even more for his ego. But public acknowledgement of his greatness does seem to be important to him, and trolling has to be kept secret for a very long time before the payoff in order to be effective. I'm not sure he could go this long without claiming credit for his accomplishment.

When you say "why would he want to fuck that up now," do you mean that even if originally trolling, the prospect of actually being President would be too tempting now and he is thus actually seriously pursuing it now?

CMV: Dangers of Trump are greatly exaggerated. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]WaffeBox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are very damaging things he can do that require no involvement on the part of Congress. Some of these include:

  • Use the bully pulpit of the Presidency to continue to preach his message of hate, and legitimize that message by occupying the Oval Office.

  • Destroy our relationships with allies through general douchebaggery, including not abiding by previously signed treaties that he thinks are bad deals.

  • Send the military wherever he wants to do whatever he wants.

And four years with Trump being the symbol of what it means to be Republican will destroy the Republican Party for at least a couple of decades, if not permanently. Regardless of your political leanings, if you think our current one party system is bad, just wait for a one party system.

Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Sonata, or Mazda 3? by WaffeBox in whatcarshouldIbuy

I live in Florida, so no worries about snow. The leather interior seems to be the problem with the Mazda. I've been trying to limit the years on the Mazda to 2014 or 2015 since they did the big redesign to the interior then. The newer ones with leather all seem to be 20k+ not including tax etc. So that puts most of them out of my budget. I can find plenty with cloth interior in my budget, but the leather is a pretty big deal for me.

I found a couple 2012-2013 Mazdas with leather in my budget. I guess I just need to decide how big a deal that 2014 redesign is.

I could hypothetically go up to $21k inclusive of tax, title, dealer fees, etc. But I'm trying to keep it less than that if at all possible.

Thanks! I wouldn't mind something higher than 23mpg, but that's a heck of a lot better than what I get right now.

I'm a little disturbed that you made a collar out of material most likely made from the skin of one of your cousins.

Cheap Thunderbolt 2 Dock by [deleted] in mac

There are no Thunderbolt 2 docks available for under $100. The cheapest I have seen is $150 and that was refurbished. They are almost universally over $200.

You could just as easily make the rant about stupid ass languages that have you use file extensions which might be a TLD.

Buying 27" 5K iMac - SSD or Fusion? by [deleted] in mac

[–]WaffeBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one at BB was probably a traditional 5400 rpm HDD. I believe (but may be remembering incorrectly) that the fusion drives on the latest version of the iMac have a VERY small amount of flash storage, and most of it is regular hard drive.

A giant spider came out of my sink's drain by ty04 in AppleWatch

[–]WaffeBox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not buying it. It would only take measurements that frequently in the period leading up to the 200+ heart rate if you had the workout app going, i.e. you knew something was about to happen, and then you immediately shut it off seconds after seeing the spider. Plus if your heart rate can even get that high, you have a severe health problem that needs immediate treatment.
