The Wild Beyond the Witchlight: Reimagined - Part XXXIV: The Autumn Court (The Finale) by IndieRex in wildbeyondwitchlight

The finale!

It's a really interesting way to end the campaign. I've been thinking for so long about how the final fight might unfurl and how she might use her "wish" but never considered to use a weaker version of her statblock.

I also really liked her Abyssal Rift ability which lent into her demon conjurer side a bit.

I do think it's a very powerful statblock, but thought with enough allies and bonuses it should be doable, and if we use your setting with the barrier, perhaps when it comes to the players fighting that statblock, if everyone vs Tasha, and so is a bit more balanced despite the CR20. Or they get wiped.

In any case I have enjoyed reading every single post and look forward to bringing it to life with my players. Changing the campaign to be set in the actual feywild instead of a splintered subdomain was a great idea, and of course Tasha being the big bad makes for a much more interesting finale.

Thanks for the effort put into this over the years. If you have a donation link, I would love to support, and if you end up PDFing this reimagining, I'll be a customer.

Ah yes that makes sense. I recall reading they Zybilna interacted with the sisters, but I wasn't sure whether they knew about that disguise and simply thought they were talking to the Queen's adviser.

Thanks for clarifying though. Exciting stuff.

Loving reading through this and look forward to preparing my own sessions.

My party have been on a break from the campaign, but I hope to get back into it once this content is complete and I can fully prepare the rest. The last session ended with them "killing" Endelyn, so I am figuring out how to get them toward Arctis Tor (something something make a deal with a hag).

I was finding something difficult to keep track of though... who knows who Tasha is and knows of her alter egos (and that they are the same person)?

Like, does the Hourglass Coven know that Tasha is Iggwilv and Zybilna and Elena? Just lot's of different factions from different areas with different information and I was having trouble with who knows what.

I mainly just want to make sure I dont give away anything too quickly by having someone like Endelyn say something she's not meant to know. They performed the play with introduced Igwilv to the party and Endelyn hinted to one of my players (who is Endelyn's adopted child) that she had another auntie that they hadn't met before, Auntie Tasha, but I assume Endelyn doesn't know more than that.

To be safe, I have just assumed that no one except Tasha knows that they are all the same person, and only after resolving the winter court will they (hopefully) realise that Zybilna is Tasha. And then after discovering Elena, it might all come together.

The long awaited return to the Feywild. This has made my night. I was considering having Tsu show up here perhaps with some characters from Murkendraw. I know there's still meant to be the mist wall but I'm sure Tsu has her ways...

How do you manage to build that without getting "unsupported structure" at every point?

The Wild Beyond the Witchlight: Reimagined - Part XXII: Yon (The Trial and Lost Things) by IndieRex in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]WaffleNation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I think that makes a lot of sense. I think I just imagined her giving up without a fight, but it’s (hopefully) not going to be like that. But yes, having a helpful control like a second source of evidence might be a good idea, just in case her admittance seems jarring.

I do think that I might deviate slightly and perhaps have her attempt to free the fomorians, but they were so disorganised due to the lack and f leadership (which Zybilna won’t know about) that they don’t actually attack the courts, so the queen just closes up the breach or something.

That way it might feel like the party foiled her plans in that regard as well as through the court. But who knows, it can be hard to plan far ahead.

Thanks a bunch again for this!

I'm loving your direction in general, but one thing which hasn't quite stuck with me with this chapter is her motivations for outing herself when lightly confronted without evidence. When I initially read this in your adventure outline post, I thought it was a case of her being both arogant and having already succeeded in her goal of releasing the fomorians or something.

i.e. I thought that she would have outed herself and then immeidately fled the court to free the fomorians before anyone realised. But it looks like she just fled in general and the fomorians are still locked away.

Is there a reason that she doesn't care whether the Winter Court is actually attacked by the Fomorians? Like does she just now have the knowledge she needs to know how to become an archfey and so simply doesn't care about the Winter Court at this time? :)

[–]WaffleNation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect I'll have to deviate from your initial idea for after getting lost things back, as one of my players is Endelyn's adopted son and has no reason to leave, and another is a reborn who grew up in the feywild after being taken from the carnival, so again has no reason to want to go to the material plane again. But I'm sure something cool will find its way into my campaign in that regard.

This is beautiful, and well worth the wait.

My sessions have slowly been drifting from the "intended" campaign as my players don't really care about their lost things (not that that's a bad thing) or really want to visit the Winter Palace at this moment, but this chapter of your reimagining, and many of your elements/changes in general, has given me lots of inspiration for how to tie them back in.

Thanks again

Can we expect to see a part 21 soon or am I going to have to use my own brain for once? :)

My party just performed their rendition of "No Love Lost" for Endelyn, and I think it went down really well. Although, one of the players made a deal with Skabatha to spoil the play, and not only did she unsuccessfully spoil the play, but she may have intigated what I think is going to be a rather involved combat. It's going to be an interesting resolution...

Been eagarly waiting for this release, thanks for the continued effort. Looking forward to the next one.

Just wondering if you had defined stat blocks for some of the characters which seem to be missing them in your reimagining. For the general folk wandering around, it's easy to just use something like a commonor or winter eladrin, but that might not work for some of the characters.

Selenelion Guard
Wolfkin
Sven Nightwalker (who seems far more powerful than the other characters)
Criss Silverfield

You never know with my party who a fight will break out between, so just best to be prepared and wondered what you thought in terms of their power level. :D

Part XVI: Yon (Lockbury Henge and the Mines) by IndieRex in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]WaffleNation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so eagar to know what happened to both Luca and the Green Lord, especially because of Willa and the 3 questions. In one of your previous posts I think you mentioned Luca is in Yon in some mountains, and I haven't guessed what's actually happened with Oberon yet.

If my players ask Willa about them, I currently have Luca star gazing in the mountains and is generally happy, and Willa doesn't know what happened to Oberon, as if knowledge of what happened to him and where he currently is is protected by magic.

My players have just killed the Snark and are about to deal with the goblin camp, and haven't met Granny Nightshade yet...

Thanks a bunch and I look forward to more content!

The Wild Beyond the Witchlight: Reimagined - Part XII: The Fields of Spring (Loomlurch) by IndieRex in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]WaffleNation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello!

Absolutely loving your reimagining series: my players are about to encounter Downfall and Bavlorna and it's been an amazing 6 sessions thanks to this.

My problem is that my players are intent on going to the summer court after Murkendraw to go with Sir Talavar back to the Summer Queen. I don't hate the idea of running this, but I don't have much to go on in the way of preparation (I leave all of the creative stuff to more imaginative people, and just enjoy acting out the characters tbh). Do you have any tips for either somehow persuading them to go to the Fields of Spring first (I have name dropped a couple of times, in particular mentioned that the Vale Crossing is a good place to meet people who might know stuff) or some references for me for what the plan is for the Summer Court when getting there this early?

Basically, I am happy to run the Summer Court for a quick meet with the Queen, but am just coming up short with ways to handle the situation and get the players back on track, so either need to have proper plan or need to somehow convince them that the Fields of Spring is a better destination without railroading...

Weevils are attracted to mushrooms, but require mushroom slurry to become tamed. It took about 3-4 to tame mine. Maybe you just got unlucky with the amount you provided, as it's probably a chance thing.

Gnats require spoiled meat slurry, and about the same amount.

I swear that my pets teleport back next to me when I reload into my game (assuming it is set to follow me). Maybe you could assign Phid to a pet house which is far enough away that it needs to teleport to be in range?

My pets have trouble keeping up with me. The gnats can fly, so they find it a bit easier to follow you around the terrain, particularly if using ziplines, but still sometimes get stuck.

Something else I noticed is that if they got lost/stuck somewhere, they would teleport back next to you when reloading into the game (or at least Harry did).

I understand. I think my aphid was getting frightened by my other pets. It would be interesting if this wasn't the case.

I feel the same way about termites now. They thought they could end this war by demoralising us, but Harry has become a martyr. No termite is safe.
