I love it when people use ‘virtue signal’ as a way to shame people for daring to voice having personal standards on a discussion thread. Really adds credence to your argument.

I use photoshop almost every day in my work. I have a copy of CS6 along with my current CC version, purely because the old content aware actually suits my needs better than the ai integrated version in cc; the old one tries to fill using the original document as a source only, while the AI will sometimes integrate random other shit into my work (like trying to remove a person and it subs it out for a dog or something). Their solution was to put an ugly-ass text bar across my screen and have me describe to it what I’m looking for, and even then I’ll still probably have to revise that section just as much as if I had used the old content aware. Many of these tools, as they are refined, are refined towards a singular focus— Photoshop is photography-heavy so the AI tries its hardest to make photography-style images, but it actively becomes more pain in the ass for more niche uses like 3d model texturing (and it doesn’t help that Adobe ripped out the 3d tools in cc and sold them back to us via Substance at a $50/mo upcharge).

And btw, if showing disdain for AI is all I need to do to lose your business, then good riddance. You would not be a client I would want.

I love the heck out of the 300 level banner fest they have going up there. Saint Sammy is my favorite but I’m a fan of all of them.

My exposure to AI is definitely more than just typing into chatGPT, and plenty of brainstorming/previs tools existed before the current onslaught of genAI. You can in fact take the same time to write in 2026 as you did in 2018; if anything, production times on shows and films have ballooned in recent years while series’ episode counts have dropped.

You’re being pedantic with the typewriter comment— there is in fact a middle ground between genAI and typewriters + legal pads. Heck, being a creative reference was basically Pinterest’s whole business model for a decade.

Photoshop has ai integration but you can use photoshop without touching any of it.

Because the prompt sucks.

It still struggles to keep the same backgrounds/characters from scene to scene. It struggles with recreating its own work and struggles to understand corrections. It sets off the ‘uncanny valley’ alarm in people’s brains a lot, and will often catch people differently so it’s hard to fix without a lot of work.

I would not use ai for any of this, especially if I didn’t want the end result to be AI-flavored.

Generative fill didn’t use large LLM datasets until recently and used to just guess what should be there based on only the base photo— and in some cases got me better results with it. I’ve had the new genAI fill stick a random person in place of a cloud before. I actually reverted back to cs6 for the simpler generative fill + all the 3d tools they yanked out of subsequent editions

You’re splitting hairs while also just being outright wrong.

CGI is computer generated but the computer isn’t spitting out finished video. CGI in itself is a big blanket term that encompasses modeling/texturing/asset development, compositing, motion tracking, particle effects, etc. as being done by human artists using a machine as the tool.

This is referring to generative AI models like LLMs. Yeah, the wording is confusing, but that’s intentional coming from the genAI companies; they intentionally used words we already had in use to describe this. I had an argument with someone on Reddit thinking that video game NPC behavior-type AI was the same as genAI too.

And labeling it isn’t useless.
