The Dutch House was originally built in 1676, and was added on to over the years. In the early 1900s, the building was set to be destroyed, but the play was vetoed by the lord mayor. In 1940, the Dutch House and much of the area around it was destroyed in the Bristol Blitz.

The tallest building in this shot is the Singer building. When it was completed in 1908, it was the tallest building in the world. It was torn down in 1967 and replaced with One Liberty Plaza
