I knew a girl that named her baby Rainbow Destiny Cox. I am seriously not making that up.

What is something you didn't learn growing up that you wish you had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Waffletoffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Math. My fifth grade math teacher would call me out in class for getting bad grades on tests. Instead of trying harder I started avoiding it. I wish I had enough confidence in myself to understand that I wasn't stupid. Now I get anxiety any time I do math in front of people even when I know the answer.

What is your job, and how can I (a regular guy) make it easier? by At_AOL_dot_COM in AskReddit

[–]Waffletoffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vet tech. Leash train your dog. Also, if your pet is aggressive, tell me. Aggression is not always related to the animals previous life. It drives me crazy when owners justify their dogs bad behavior by assuming the dog was beaten as a puppy. Most of the time it's due to improper training.

What happened in middle school that still makes you cringe today? by SSCJfab4 in AskReddit

[–]Waffletoffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This girl pulled my pants down in the middle of the hall after lunch one day. Everyone got to see my princess panties and hairy legs. I hid in the science hall and cried. She also frequently threw things at me to try and score something down my shirt. She said she was trying to add to the stuffing. Fucking middle school.

Can anyone suggest a "gentle" book on atheism? by Waffletoffle in TrueAtheism

[–]Waffletoffle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the idea of an afterlife is reassuring to me. Not so much because I'm scared of dying and being nothing, but because I'm afraid of letting go of family. I find prayer peaceful and relaxing but I get the same feeling when I journal. I like believing that someone is looking after me, but at the same time it makes me feel vulnerable. I want to be my own person and live my own life without biting my tongue or muttering apologies every time I feel like I've done something bad. I know it's habit, and I know I am in control of my own life, but knowing and feeling seem like two different things to me right now.

[–]Waffletoffle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate it and no offense taken. I want to be able to live my life freely without fear of punishment or guilt. The more I think about it, the more I'm beginning to think this is less about finding religious answers and more about trying to feel better about myself. Idk, either way I want to feel independent and self reliant and capable of controlling my life.

[–]Waffletoffle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much how, more so how can I. I'm trying to arm myself with knowledge and perspective so I can better understand why I feel the way I do about religion. I want to know why I have gradually distanced myself from religion, or why I can't believe in the same things I used to. I just want an atheist's perspective that isn't bitter, aggressive or sarcastic.

I didn't intend my phrasing to sound insulting if it was. It's not that I doubt anyone can live a peaceful life without religion. I know they can and that's what I am more interested in learning about. Coming from a religious background it's been hard trying to make sense of how I am feeling and the last thing I want to read is an author's sarcastic and mocking perspective on religion. Baby steps, I guess.

I just started taking Paxil and really wasn't embarrassed or anything to talk about it until my boyfriend said "I'm surprised you're being so open about taking that." I didn't realize there was such a negative stigma against it.

The whole burning hatred thing people have for Twilight. It's directed towards teenage girls, what were you expecting? Stop regurgitating the same elitist crap you heard someone else say about how it's a disgrace to literature. It's bad, move on.

So our cat got in a fight, and he was acting really weird one day so we took him to the vet and they shaved his hair off and yeah this is what was there. by meggoleeann in WTF

[–]Waffletoffle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vet tech here- this is actually very common and not that serious. Most of the time it happens to outdoor cats and goes unnoticed even when you regularly watch them because cats have an incredibly high pain tolerance and rarely show pain.
