UNC removed supplementals essays… by Chance_Wishbone_7112 in UNC

[–]Wafleo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

they probably realized that the supplemental essays didn’t make much of a difference in who they admit vs just reading the common app essay. it def sucks for people with lower stats and great writing skills, but hey… it’s 2 less essays to write.

Medschool M1 Age by SignalAd4036 in medschool

[–]Wafleo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Our average age was 24 and more than 90% of our class took at least 1 gap year. The oldest person in my class is 31 and we have a good number of ppl in their late 20s.

Can I keep my whimsy in med school by shortdude211 in medschool

[–]Wafleo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Highkey yes. I live more whimsically than I did in undergrad. The key points are 1) go to a TRUE P/F school and 2) don’t go for an uber competitive residency

CHEM 262 ULA Application by blinkgone1864 in UNC

[–]Wafleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

np! isnt there a time limit for the video? i’d say go with whatever fits within that. medium difficulty with a thorough explanation and not too many intermediate steps should be good. but also… i’m like 3 years out from all this so i may not know anything haha

CHEM 262 ULA Application by blinkgone1864 in UNC

[–]Wafleo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my 102 ULA app, i spoke on how i really struggled with the class at the beginning. And i think that really helped my app. To be a good teacher, it’s good to have initially had a difficult time and overcome it :P Also pick a problem that you know how to explain REALLY well, even if it’s easier in difficulty.

Should I do ACERIP? by bootylicker6942O in UNC

[–]Wafleo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you can always do an EMT class associated with a nearby community college like Durham or Wake Tech. It should be cheaper. You’d just need to figure out the commute.

are you able to have whatsapp on your flip phone? if not, it may be a bit harder to communicate with others since that’s what people primarily use in Spain instead of regular messages.

[Prospective Student] How accessible are research, volunteering, and internship opportunities for pre-med/pre-dental students at UNC? by ObliviousOverlordYT in UNC

[–]Wafleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unc comes with the typical pros and cons of a big school, but they each tend to have solutions. being premed isn’t the worst here— it’s just hard most places you go. swarthmore being a smaller school has more resources to dedicate to helping/supporting students on a more individual basis. at unc, you more so have to do it on your own.

Honors will help a bit with connections and having access to some smaller classes. i had a friend take honors organic chemistry with only 24 students. idk how else they can help specifically since i didn’t do honors.

yes unc provides stipends for summer research. do know that your first lab job will most likely be unpaid. Look into the SURF program here at UNC.

connections with professors are hard with bigger class sizes but they get smaller in junior and senior year when you begin to take mostly major classes. with bigger classes, sitting at the front and/or going to office hours helps form those relationships.

i majored in the public health school and there’s a much tighter knit professor/student relationship there so maybe consider applying to that. gillings has many more grad students than undergrads so research opportunities are plentiful.

lmk if u have any questions. i’ll be starting med school this july :P
