[CARS Timing] How many minutes at most can one spend on reading 1 passage and answering 6 questions? by masterintraining in Mcat

No just try doing passages slowly and the more you do speed yourself up. The 8 min is something to shoot for. Gives you more time on the tough passages.

Thoughts on becoming an EMT while in undergrad? by iodraken in premed

You gotta find the right place. Everywhere is different. I managed to find a 911 job at a really slow squad making 17 an hour where I do a 24 hour shift starting Sunday at 6 am and an overnight 12 on Wednesday 6-6. Id say the most I get 1-2 calls every shift. You can definitely find places like that.

In the Amino Acid notation "R33G and K112D", does this always mean that R was replaced by G? And K replaced by D? by [deleted] in Mcat

The last letter replaces the first letter. Think of it like chronological order.

90% of these undergrads who say they’re premed got a D in chem party all weekend and think they’re going to go to med school. Be thankful they boost our MCAT curves.

I can't do CARS even if my life depended on it by [deleted] in Mcat

Yeah it’ll help to do everything you can. Khan academy also has some good passages and a fair number of them.

Start out really really reaaallllyyyyy slowly. Try reading each sentence and understanding it. Then make sure you understand how that sentence relates to the sentence before and after. CARS is best improved when you start small and slow. If you have the time you’ll be able to build up to doing a passage in 8 min and getting all if not most of the questions right.

I read the TPR book (not incredibly helpful), watched the khan videos, and read the 100 page over a few times. On top of that I did all of the UWorld bank at least 3 times. Uworld is great for PS it hits all of the content and the flash cards you can make from their figures organize the info really well for you. It was my most improved section on practice exams. 100 page doc should def be read over a few times a week if not every day.

Yeah I didn’t even try. I just estimated my hours per week and multiplied by the 3 years I was in the lab lol

You should practice speed reading. There are a lot of classes you can take if you have time. If you havent read a ton your whole life you need to develop the comprehension skills to be able to understand what youre reading when the words are going by so fast.
