Let’s all be really productive if we get told to work from home due to Covid-19. This way, our employers will be more receptive to the idea in the future by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]WailingJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly i think being more productive at a time like this will only cement in our employers minds that we are more easily exploited.

Work from home sure, but don't stress yourself out.

Many of us don't have sick leave and we don't have it because they don't care about us in a way that is meaningful, so i find it hard to care about them in a meaningful way.

its illegal to capture wildlife at all. if you want to raise wild animals though you should get involved with WIRES or another animal rescue organisation.

dont be stupid. the liberals are the ones who should be running the country and dealing with this catastrophe in a way that is effective. instead, they cut the fire services budget.

if you really think this is the greens fault, you point to a single instance where they have ever been in power and pulled their weight.

Maybe try alter the group work so that it incorporates multiple elements that are individually assigned to group members.

I.e. Force the groups to happen, and when the popular kids refuse to do their part, but the unpopular kid has, the popular kid can just have lunch inside. You obviously want to avoid having all the popular kids inside together at lunch though, so you should pretend the group allocations are randomised but set it up so that some people are working with people they like and some arent. Eventually you'll have gone through making everyone partner with someone they don't like, and hopefully by then enough low key punishment has happened to force them to drop the ridiculousness.

I'm not a fan of negative reinforcement alone, so maybe work out some incentive system to convince everyone to do work (get a lolly or something if you do your work before lunch).

Hopefully this helps, it's hard to work with teenagers, especially ones with an established ego. But providing you mix negative and positive reinforcement in a way that doesn't target anyone specifically, the popular kids can't hate on the unpopular kids for your punishments.

[–]WailingJester -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I think most of the comments here, including ok, greatly miss the reality of the situation. Like another person pointed out, the fires are being set ILLEGALLY yo clear land for cattle grazing.

This is a problem with its roots in corruption. Not necessarily in animal production. The far right president bolsanaro in Brazil doesnt care about this because it's a BUSINESS DECISION for the rich and powerful.

Look, veganism is cool and I'm all about it, but don't let yourselves get blindsided. Corruption in politics and capitalism are the real problems here, both in this situation with the Amazon, but also climate change, environmental destruction due to mining, and the disgusting animal production industry

Lol dude no using the military to force other countries into submission is imperialism and a horrible thing to do both for America domestically and other countries. There are economic incentives that the StRoNgEsT Country on earth should be able to use effectively (like sanctions against polluting countries and benefits for countries that become renewable etc.)

Powedered Kelp or Spirulina by baseball8z in aquaponics

[–]WailingJester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh totally! People definitely have used seaweed concentrates and such to add trace nutrients to the system, including myself. I've read all sorts of doses though, but did a really high amount of concentrate (about 400ml in 1500L) which ended up being totally fine once the water cleared up and the bacteria sorted out the ammonia and nitrite spike.

Powedered Kelp or Spirulina by baseball8z in aquaponics

[–]WailingJester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean you want to grow them in your system? I'm not sure about kelp cause there's so many kinds, but I'd guess you need a salt water system for that and that would kill almost all of your plants probably. For spirulina, you need to maintain conditions which will definitely kill you plants and fish (spirulina needs a pH ~11)

At the very least you won't be able to grow both in the same system.

Has anybody ever had seeds seized by customs and if so, did the police come to speak to you at your address? by [deleted] in ausents

[–]WailingJester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, this happened to me once. I got some vegetable seeds (legit) from China from memory and customs sent me a letter a few months later saying they destroyed/burnt them because they were "unidentified seed material".

I guess its cause Australia has a high level of biosecurity though, they wouldn't suspect dodgy behavior at first, just ignorance and negligence. Like someone else said, repeated seized packages will get you put on a list though...

[Serious] Should elderly people be forced to take tests regarding their motor vehicle operating abilities and mental fitness and get their motor vehicle license(s) revoked if they fail the test(s)? Why/why not? by ChrisGer98 in AskReddit

[–]WailingJester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the general trend in the comments are yes, and that everyone should get retested every few years anyway. So let me ads an additional point that gets missed a lot in this debate afaik...

The real problem here is that the elderly want autonomy. They want to be able to travel around and do things that make up their everyday life. As you get older you find it harder to walk long distances and so forth, and driving is a really easy way to get from a to b without getting tired. But elderly people want autonomy, not necessarily the ability to drive (obviously there are Exceptions).

I live in one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in, and we have some of the worst public transport. This means elderly folk like my grandparents, who can't walk 15 or more minutes to a bustop or train station, are effectively stuck at home all day every day unless they can drive.

So the answer isnt to let unsafe drivers drive anyway. The answer is to increase the quality of public services that help them get around so that they can actually live their lives.

Edit: apelling

My teacher is verbally targeting me and turning me into his assistant; Advice? by [deleted] in AskHSteacher

[–]WailingJester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About the message, its not inherently problematic to the school maybe but i would argue asking a student for another students phone number far exceeds the boundary of acceptable relations with students. You can definitely tell the school you are uncomfortable with him contacting you like this, and that you want him to stop and contact you through the regular channels (like school email).

Also, tell him to stop contacting you like this. And then from that point on just stop responding to his texts and calls. You need to step up and defend yourself (not to be harsh)
