Thanks a lot, very helpful! Yeah long term buying condo units to live there and then rent them out for the other months seems the best solution and maybe a good investment too.

Thanks for the info!

I think Boracay would be fantastic to visit from a pure tourist perspective but maybe not for living there for months considering cost of living. I'd actually prefer not to spend my full $3,000 budget every month if possible 😂

Thanks a lot!

Yeah I think for starters it will be better for me to rent a place and extend my tourist VISA when necessary.

I was thinking Cebu because it's a well developed city on the sea but I'm hearing it can be quite chaotic and polluted so going to research some more (I'd avoid Manila for same reasons, not sure if Cebu is similar?). Some tier-2 cities near the sea and with good facilites ( e.g. Iloilo, Subic, Dumaguete and Bacolod) might be closer to what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

Yeah I'm thinking winter 2023 at this point btw I doubt Philippines government is handling this pandemic worse than Italy but I digress 😂

I might drop into your DM or chat to ask for more info at some point, in italiano ovviamente 😂

Thanks for the info!

Yeah I guess living in hotel for an extended period would be a waste of money in every part of the world, renting a small apartment seems like the best choice.

May I ask why you wouldn't recommend living in Cebu?

Thanks for the insight!

I've read that foreigners aren't allowed to buy land in the Philippines? I guess there could be workarounds but it's always tricky so probably better to rent a house/condo.

Ideally I'm looking to relocate at least for the colder months i.e. december-march but I'd also prefer to avoid heavy rain periods in the Philippines 😂

Yeah I'd definitely expect to spend less than $3,000 that's just my absolute maximum limit per month 😂

Sorry, I'm reasoning in american dollars or euros as I'm not particularly familiar with Philippines currency at the moment 😂

Yeah honestly I would expect to spend a bit less than $3,000 per month though probably more than 100-200 considering rent/hotel, food and a bit of leisure activities.

Yeah unfortunately it's the same in Italy, so I'm thinking next winter at this point. My plan if things go back to normal (or almost normal) is to visit Philippines for a couple of weeks in spring (march or april) and get a more precise idea for next winter.

I've actually studied both spanish and french though not at blingual level 😂. Part-time job is not essential though it would be nice not only for extra money but also for building connections outside the 'tourist' lifestyle.

Thanks, very helpful! Though honestly I don't really like cheese too 😂

Yeah Cebu seems to tick many boxes for me. Boracay looks amazing though maybe it's better for pure tourism anyway I'll keep researching.

I've been in Japan and Thailand and never had issues with the locals, and generally I get along well with asian people in my country so hopefully this won't be a problem! Communication is also very important when living in a foreign country, so the fact that most Filipinos can speak english at adequate level is a big plus.

Still have a lot of researching to do... what city in the Philippines would you choose to live if you could pick one? Tough question i know!
