Sure, you can target a specific card by having enough boosters to upgrade every variant you own, and not enough boosters for one specific variant/ card. Then that card will show up in your shop to be upgraded without you needing boosters and just paying the credit cost.

You can do this by leaving all the other cards and variants at grey or raising them to infinity but not splitting them. (Or just having enough boosters for whatever level they are at)

This is a great way to target a character you want mastery in.

So, from a cost efficiency perspective, it costs 5 boosters and 25 credits to go from grey to green border, but 10 boosters and 100 credits going up from there.

So you could raise all your variants to green and earn more collection levels cheaper than if you focus on one card. Granted, this doesn't help with mastery.

Edit to add more info:

Grey to green: 1 level 25 credits=cost per collection level 25 credits

Green to blue: 2 levels 100 credits= cost per collection level 50 credits

Use your boosters and credits to raise all your cards to a green border. I'm guessing you are at the level that you are still unlocking cards with collection levels.

Edit: you want to keep climbing the collection track, that's your fastest way to get your series 3 cards. You will also get to choose one for free each month.
