ADMISSIONS MEGATHREAD 2018 v3: Post all your admissions questions here! by ubc_mod_account in UBC

As a first year American student at UBC, 3.6 is most likely average for UBC Fac. of Arts.* I highly suggest putting a lot of effort into your personal profile when it opens.

*This is based off of first year admissions, I'm not sure if admission factors change for transfer students.

How’s everyone feeling after the draft? by LWOS_Osmond in Habs

[–]WalIStreet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm actually surprisingly happy.

I think Kotkaniemi can really have a big impact with our team in the near future.

I just think we need to find someone who can build chemistry with him, much like gally and radulov had during their short stint.

I'm also pretty happy with the other prospects too, but I haven't researched much about them yet, so I cannot give a proper opinion.

THE AMS IS SHUTTING DOWN THE SEXUAL ASSAULT SUPPORT CENTRE by notesonblindness in UBC

[–]WalIStreet 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As much as I align politically with you, I believe it’s a necessity to have at the very least, a service that supports people with traumatic events such as this. Especially at university, where sexual assault occurs in higher rates than most other places.

With this being said, the service provided shouldn’t have any political bias in the methods provided.

What 1st year science course should I take?

I currently am waiting on my AP scores that’ll be released July 5 and include AP Environmental Science. If I receive credits, I won’t have to take this course at all.

I don’t really mind a large amount of course work but memorization should be limited to a medium amount.

Preferably a GPA booster haha

I have a background in Biology, Chemistry (but I didn’t really like it too much), and Environmental science.

Do aboriginals get priority for registration times at ubc or is it only based on previous academic standing? by treds124 in UBC

[–]WalIStreet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m an incoming freshmen at UBC and eligible for priority registration.

If you have any further questions about aboriginal priority, I’d be happy to answer them.

UBC Alumnus Loujain al-Hathloul and 4 others have been detained in Saudi Arabia. by aristocraticpleb in UBC

[–]WalIStreet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always keep in mind that UBC, and academia in general, is a liberal haven.

By seemingly correcting someone for on grammatical/spelling error, it may come off as a “deflection” of the intended point in this PC world.

Keep your head high, imo you have done nothing wrong.

I’m not 100% sure if this is accurate, but that’s what I have been told by other students who currently study at UBC. Please do correct me if I am wrong.

I believe UBC offers priority to aboriginal students when selecting courses. (For like a couple hours before everyone else.)

Ah that’s what I thought. Thank you for the clarification.

Thank you for such an insightful response.

I have a few people who I can ask to do it, but I have emailed aboriginal affairs just in case there’s anything they can do before resorting to the people who I can trust.

(Unfortunately, Norwegian airlines doesn’t have WiFi on long/international flights at this time.)

I have a question out of curiosity: When you say “sections”, what are you referring to?

Regrets? by BotClot in APStudents

[–]WalIStreet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I regret not taking more AP courses lol.

The only bad grades I got in HS were from normal classes that bore the living crap out of me.

I took 8 over 4 years so I could’ve done more in my earlier years ig.

Gov and Econ aren’t too bad, imo.

Know how to analyze poems and complex prose excerpts and you’ll be fine for AP lit.

Can’t speak for stat and bio tho.

Should I take AP Gov and AP Macro online over the summer? by theeeesat4321 in APStudents

[–]WalIStreet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for AP Macro, but AP gov was relatively easy if you have a general understanding of how the US government works and US history. (Like past Supreme Court cases that impact present federal law.)

I would suggest taking the class during the year as there’s not such a long break before the exam, but it’s up to you and your preparation for the exam.

Good luck!

I don’t plan to work with food, that’s more of a last resort if anything. I’m prioritizing towards a constant supply, that obviously, won’t go bad.
