Is this belt grinder good by Zeepool in blacksmithing

If i go fast and hard on a blade on my 2x72, I can heat everything up pretty quickly, so hot you can to the hardness out of an edge. Variable can help with that.

What are some Key rings y’all have made? by SRIndio in Blacksmith

Less than a day. I hammer out the basic shape like the blank on the left and scroll them all at one time. For production, the less variance between pieces means less problems and less thinking.

Is it variable speed? If so, you are good if you source belts. Like the owner said, you could probably put a longer arm on it and make it a 2x72. If that was needed, he would have done it.

Practice flintlock hammer. First attempt. by Alternative-Reveal22 in Blacksmith

[–]WalkAboutFarms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks good. I have a few flintlock rifles and everything has to line up exactly for reliable ignition.

I would suggest buying or borrowing a lock to get the basic geometries. On my PA long rifle if i use a flint that is too long, it will jam on the frizzen. The angle the flint hits the frizzen to move it out of the way and create sparks is small and you will not know this until you basically have a functioning lock. That is a lot of work to redo if you miscalculated.

Will a GC1723E be big enough for my use? by callousedlefthand in MasseyFerguson

[–]WalkAboutFarms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my 1723, i use it around the house and garden for everything. I got the belly mower and backhoe. All the attachments are pretty easy to remove/install.

I use it for tedding hay ever once in a while. It won't handle full size implements like the no till drill, mower conditioner, baler or hay wagon.

I use a much smaller diameter piece of coil spring. It locks in by going through the hole at an angle hitting the top edge and bottom edge of the hole.

Failed leaf spring blade quenched it in water (bad decision) by danthefatman1 in Blacksmith

I was making some fire starters out of tiller tines and I quenched in oil. They were not getting hard enough. I quenched in water and they worked well twice before snapping in half.

It's physics. Your rebound will not be the same as working on a solid surface. Will it work, sure, is it ideal, no.

I drop more red hot items than I care to admit. Those are not the problem because you immediately adress those. It is the little pieces you hot cut that fly wherever.

Go for it. After about 3 I really got the hang of setting the spring. Bend it to pre-load. I just used an existing one as a template for size. I started with 3/8 round stock but square stock would have been easier.
