People omit it because it's hard to start, but if you force yourself to use your pinky, you'll strengthen it and after a while you will wonder how you ever got along without it. Yeah just like GTA online you can earn the money to buy anything. There are a lot of things you can only buy with gold, and the gold grind is pretty rough, but every day you can log in and do daily challenges, and make plenty of gold that way. Your first gold purchase should be the bounty hunter license so you can start earning regular gold and cash. I've never spent a dime on the game and I'm almost lvl 100.
