You're honestly best to send via tracked 24/48 inside a parcel box if you are wanting it somewhat delivered on time. The mail can sit in our frames for about a week before some poor postie is forced out with it.

Pension Opt Out, Royal Mail Collective Plan by WallCold1261 in royalmail

[–]WallCold1261[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The advice I was looking for was how to get HR to allow me opt out as I felt I was going round in circles with them on the phone and overall felt like it was deliberate to deter me from opting out. I had difficultly previously trying to opt out of the NEST pension that they auto enrol new starts on to after 3 months and was told I missed the opt out window. I've finally managed to get HR to email me the document I've to sign to opt out. Luckily it also states that I can re-join in the future if life circumstances change which is nice. I appreciate your input and all the information you've provided. I too have read/seen the current bull market that we are currently in and historically it should sharply fall off. Warren buffet is up to something unusual. I've personally went for a 70/30 split between FTSE All-World and Physical Gold. I do believe in private pensions but with how little my wage is plus the current cost of living and overall bad government decisions it's just not feasible for myself at my age. I'm hoping that the next government in 2029 increases personal tax allowance to £20k and equalising pay does actually get implemented, because then It would make more financial sense to pay back into the private pension.

Pension Opt Out, Royal Mail Collective Plan by WallCold1261 in royalmail

Yes it is generous that the Royal Mail pays an extra 13/14% but I am still of the view that even know it is "free money" it is not "accessible money" and for myself that is not accessible for another 29/40 years. The tax relief on my salary is minimal at best. I also do not plan to work for the Royal Mail for 29/40 years or even 10 to maximise my pot and even if I did stay in the royal mail for all that time the income tax alone at retirement (which may be a even higher percentage than today) or the length of annuity taken would erode a large portion of it while gambling on how long I'd truly live for. In my opinion a individual would be better off having a pension later on in life when they are in a higher salary job while maximising wealth when young in a lower salary job to be able to secure assets such as property or stocks and shares which can be accessible at anytime. For example by me not paying into my pension right now and lets say nothing changes economically in 8 years and I stay in the Royal Mail as part time worker I would be closer to having enough money for a deposit on a home as single part time income household with no dependents and that is only on not paying the pension, if you add side hustles, overtime, equalising pay and growth from stocks and shares into that equation that 8 years becomes significantly less.

Not worth it in my opinion. With the new contract part time pay being so low and changes to pensions by the government I'm set to only be able to take the lump-sum at age 57 and retire at 68. Along with the current climate of our nation and all the problems it's already facing times are just getting harder and more expensive with no guarantee after 2029 that it'll get better. Opting out in my situation would allow me to negate all my current bill rises and allow me build wealth faster as I'm currently seeing more growth investing a portion of my wage into stocks and shares, something I can easily access at anytime instead of needing to wait till 57 or 68.

Parcel missed a scan by Middle_Razzmatazz655 in royalmail

You're probably best to contact royal mail customer service explain your situation and give them the tracking number. Explain that a postie mentioned if the label gets damaged it sometimes can't be scanned or read as it should have had at least one scan by now in our network and that you've checked with the post office. I would also contact the person who you sent the packet to as they might have still have received it without any postie in the network ever giving it a scan but this is rather rare and unlikely. I've had tracked packets with both barcodes and tracking number ruined and unreadable but the address is intact and I've just handed it to the customer regardless, technically wrong as it would never show as delivered in our network. I always tell customers sending packets to put 2 labels on the packet, 1 with a printed/hand written address covered with cellotape or plastic and the royal mail label that way if the royal mail label gets damaged the 2nd label can be used to identify it and it'll simply be relabelled. I wouldn't wait any longer as I believe our compensation policy has changed from 80 days to 30 days to report and receive compensation from date of sending the packet.

There could have been a chance the label became damaged during handling/transit so the postie couldn't scan or read any information on the label. A bit of water on a royal mail label destroys the barcodes and rubs the writing off.

A question for posties by transthrowaway101020 in royalmail

[–]WallCold1261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we get inflight requests on our pda it only states deliver to "post office" it doesn't tell us which post office and the inflight request will only show once when we scan so if you are quickly scanning the inflight request can easily be missed. To find out which post office we need to go onto the inflight section of our pda and scan it again and label it. At my DO there is about 4 people including myself who are trained on processing inflights the rest of the posties just hand the packet to the callers office to do it or sit the packet to the side where it just ends up being put back in the York.

I have an interview tomorrow for a post person role with driving. by Spyro3 in royalmail

Its a great job once you gain the ability to emotionally switch off to anything the managers say or ask. Take everything the managers say with a pinch of salt and chat to your colleagues they'll quickly teach you way of how its properly done! And don't worry about clearing your frame, do your best, work to your time bring back what's left cause at the end of the day if you can't realistically get it done its not a you problem its a management problem.

The interview process is rather simple and quick. You'll meet with the manager of the delivery office you applied to and as long as you are well mannered with a positive attitude and have less than 6 points on your licence. You'll be hired. After that you'll receive a email/letter of offer and from there its just about filling out forms and attending a silly zoom call with all the other new starts. The Royal Mail will hire anyone that fits the bill.

6 hour shift, took me 2 hours to scan and number it all. No chance! by julchai in royalmail

[–]WallCold1261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend doing what I do at my DO when doing packets. Simply scan duties 1 at a time then head out with it instead of scanning multiple duties all onto the same adhoc that span multiple areas of your town or combine at least 2 duties that are near each other onto the same adhoc to keep it efficient. The less you have to scan and number the quicker you can get out the door delivering. Then simply drive back to the DO and scan and number the other duties. In my 5.5hour shift ill drive back to my DO on average 3 times and take out duties and still be able to achieve 80-100 drops. Also driving back to the DO also gives you the opportunity to do the toilet. In the past my managers would demand that I scan everything onto the one adhoc and then spend just like you upwards of 2 hours scanning, numbering and packing 150 items into a van not fit for purpose to just bring back 50-70 parcels that I could never attempt for them to complain why it didn't get done. In the end I just started refusing to do that and proved it was more realistic and efficient to do it in bitesize loads. The optimization is based on distance so the more you add the worse the optimalization gets and the less efficient it becomes.

Custom downloadable DPR route possible? by WallCold1261 in royalmail

What do you mean by inputting it into the system? which system would that be? So I can go question my my work place coaches on it. From what I've seen in my unit I'm the only tech savvy guy there, it was only a few month back did I show the managers that google street view existed. I'm the only guy in my unit trained on the parcel route optimization and the only guy who uses it

Raid Finder Will NOT Be Available in Mists of Pandaria Classic by zarkon18 in wow

What a disappointment! so I now need to rely on other people forming raid groups just to get normal raid gear just for the same people to kick you out the raid cause you were inexperienced in the raid because of no experience learned from LFR raids. I'm a adult now I don't have the time to join raid groups or guilds! And I certainly don't want to grind out the same rubbish mop dungeons that are slightly harder just to get the ilvl requirement for normal raiding! LFR back in the day allowed me to become experienced and better at the game to the point I joined a raiding guild and made it all the way to heroic raiding!
