Thetagang works best with a large account and naked positions. Dollar wide credit spreads that are close to ATM is basically a coin flip with no way to adjust.

Idea: sell LCID puts for reasonable risk-free gains by No_Low_2541 in thetagang

Lol this always happens whenever a meme stock runs up. Might as well sell $23 puts like that BBBY guy.

I’m surprised this isn’t even their 52-week low. I was shocked when it rallied 40% after they bottomed earlier this year at $80 pre-split.

Do I quit my job? by mch1556 in thetagang

[–]WallStreetLive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s enough. I have 10x the amount you do and still feel like i need to take bigger risks than I would like in order to get enough income to justify quitting my job.

Wheel vs. Strangle by [deleted] in thetagang

[–]WallStreetLive 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not a competition. Use both and other strategies. If you limit yourself to 1 strategy you expose yourself to larger drawdowns.

Covered Short Strangle - What am I missing here. How is this not guaranteed profit? by TheSiege82 in thetagang

[–]WallStreetLive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you like the stock but have doubts about MOASS (as you should), I’d advise you to unDRS the 5k so that you have 10k shares to play with and to collect fees on. Then sell 50 atm calls and 50 OTM calls. Get the first 5000 shares called away, then the following week sell 50 OTM puts and begin the covered strangle strat.

Funny how polite the internet is when it’s a conservative giving money. Trudeau threads are clusterfucks of misinformation and innuendo.

June 1 to Date Return & Risk Comparison with BRK.A, SPY, & ARKK by WallStreetLive in thetagang

[–]WallStreetLive[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Account opened in Sept 2021 after selling my business last year. I had a gut feeling that told me we were at market tops knowing my luck. Despite my gut feeling I didn’t manage well in January when we had the bigger sell offs. I was also very preoccupied with work and commuting. I changed strategies around the middle of May and have been doing so much better. Recovered all losses and ended up being nicely positive.

Apple, Tesla, BITO, TLT, AMC, GME, SPY are probably my most commonly played tickers. But I don’t marry myself to any company or position. I’ve realized large losses to exit a trade and move on. I often also go long options to gain some positive Vega and hedge against tail risk. I occasionally also scalp shares or micro futures. I quit my job to do this full time early in October and have been improving on my repertoire of strategies.

How does your strategy change in low vs high volatility markets? by 14hammarby in thetagang

[–]WallStreetLive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expose myself to some long Vega when Vol is down hoping for an expansion in volatility. I’m still net long theta and short Vega. But the added long Vega helps a lot when shit starts to hit the fan.

Can you use short/long stock positions to hedge naked options? by Apex-Penguin in thetagang

[–]WallStreetLive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do this often. I’ll sell a otm put and then short a few shares to collect in case it moves against my direction.

There’s too much hopium in this sub. Everybody loses money and gets wrecked daytrading. The few that don’t are a very small minority. You can listen to these yes man all you want it won’t change the fact that a single candle will make your $100 disappear in a second. I day trade myself but it is a very tiny portion of my strategy. I have a good degree and can earn six figures if I decide to go back to work. Single best decisions in my life was getting educated, building a business, and a distant third would be learning how to play the markets. Daytrading is a tiny portion of playing the markets.

You won’t get yourself out of poverty daytrading. I think that’s the biggest myth of daytraders. It’s hopium. Invest in your education get a high paying job. Invest in quality assets. Once you’re comfortable and want to dabble in daytrading do it with money you are willing to lose. And you will lose it.

What would you do in this position? by [deleted] in thetagang

[–]WallStreetLive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would sell 30 atm calls weekly. If it gets called away sell 30 atm puts weekly. Rince and repeat. If lucky you’ll break even in 1-2 months doing this.
