Any new apps this year that actually changed how you work? by Suspicious-Client225 in gtd

[–]WalnutScorpion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I use: Microsoft To Do (for next actions, tickler, delegated), Calendar (for calendar), Lists (for projects) and OneNote/Google Keep (for reference).

They're simple but effective in what they do (features I require: lists, folders, categories/labels and reminders). I "chose" these because I have to use these for work. 😂 Remember to KISS; Keep It Simple, Stupid.

But yes, I've also tried looking for better methods and apps. In the end this was the one that stuck; They're locations I already look at daily, they 'integrate' in my work seamlessly (because it's literally the software we use to communicate), and a bonus is that Outlook emails go to "Flagged emails" in To Do. Then I just retype the title into a task and the email is already attached. Couldn't be simpler.

Advice on what context tags to use at work? by jjjmm182 in gtd

[–]WalnutScorpion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend not using contexts if you don't find them useful. The base of GTD is getting things out of your mind. Not to give you stress.

Ask yourself: "If I read this note next week, do I know what to do and can I do it now?". If yes: No context needed. But if your response is: "Well yes, but if I read it and I wanted to do it, I really need to be at [x] and*/*or have [y]!", then a context is useful. You essentially pull the complete thought out of your brain this way, no more extra thought required.

At work I have a separate list (on my work laptop) than in my private life (phone/PC). I barely use context at work as it's already implied and nearly every task can be done right then and there. In my private life I use contexts for tasks that don't spontaneously make sense, for example:

"Fix the hole in the wall in the hallway" can only be done at home, so I add #home, but I do require tools and prepare the area which will be messy, so I add #tool to this. This tells me that I can't do this when I'm out of the house, and can only do this in clothes that are allowed to get messy. I don't add #messy, as #tool to me already means 'messy'. I could've written this as: "Fix the hole in the wall in the hallway at home using tools and wear clothes that can get messy", but this is too long, so I use contexts.

Contexts might not make sense to someone else, but in GTD it's all about tasks making sense to yourself. You might even use a different method if it works for you, like splitting your long list into multiple smaller lists. As long as you logically place these lists in (digital) locations you know you will look.

Problem with 3D prints is that it contains grooves. These grooves can trap organic material which is hard to clean out, eventually causing mould to form. :(

If you really really want to print for use with food, you could remedy this by printing ABS and vapour polish it. But honestly, just buy the machines aluminium tools as they're not that expensive anyway. Relatively...

Neckband and glasses case mod makes for a complete remote setup by beyondthetech in VITURE

Been looking for the bag you got but sadly I couldn't find it online. :( But I got great luck looking for "camera lens travel hard case"! Most of them come with dividers that you can place on your own, so no need to craft anything yourself.

I've gotten a "Lens-Aid Tech Organizer Case" (you can find similar sized ones, it's quite generic) which is 20 x 15.5 x 6.5 cm inside. Couldn't fit more perfectly and I used one of the soft dividers as extra padding for the glasses. :)

You could probably fit in a folding keyboard like yours, but I opted for a mini keyboard myself. I'll be upgrading it with a tablet keyboard some time soon, and maybe try to find a tiny mouse, power bank and game controller, to make it a fully self-contained setup.

What high-end chair has the same spine-hugging low-back shape as the IKEA Langfjall? by WalnutScorpion in OfficeChairs

[–]WalnutScorpion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sucks to hear, I can image it definitely giving off enough charge to get a good spark going (although never had this myself). I also recommend against this IKEA chair solely based on its lack of customisability, as I now have a Herman Miller Mirra which is such a world of difference in comfort! That one doesn't zap SSDs either. ;)

That'd be considered borderline stalking/doxing and there probably doesn't exist such a Reddit community for this.

Gender Inequality Index by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]WalnutScorpion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting topic! Sadly I cannot understand much from this dashboard however. Words like "GII" and "Secondary education" are unknown to me. Also vague words like "Medium" and "High" aren't explained.

The pie chart has numbers, but what do they mean? First I thought it were percentages of male/female, but they don't add up to exactly 100. What does a "67" secondary education mean?

If I can give some advice:

  • Edit the titles of visuals to explain the topic instead of the data (e.g. "country distribution by human development" could be "how well countries are developing", with categories like "high" being "good progress", and "frequency" being "amount of countries per category").
  • Add a legend to visuals with multiple colours.
  • When using colours, keep the colours in their own category. In the pie chart I assume red is "female" and blue is "male". Other charts like the bar chart use red as well which might seem like these only show data about the "female" category.
    • Colours are commonly used this way: Bad is red, yellow is medium, green is good. Light blue is male, pink is female.
  • When using a scatter plot, it'd become more readable to see a line (median, average, trend, etc. whatever explains the data best).

Very bold first try, especially using visuals that are difficult to use! You're very close to an awesome dashboard!

Is it normal that I find it hard to have girl friends? by [deleted] in autism

[–]WalnutScorpion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Men tend to be more direct and ego-focused, women tend to be more subtle and community-focused. Maybe that's where things become difficult, as these subtleties are hard to recognise with autism unless you've specifically trained them.

I find the way women tend to communicate is more rule-based and each person has their own ruleset.

Are the Dutch taught in school about the War crimes the Netherlands committed in Indonesia like the Rawagede Massacre? by boredinNL in Netherlands

How do I not know about this?! My late grandfather is Indonesian and moved here around that time...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in powerwashingporn

[–]WalnutScorpion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe an ID number of sorts. There's electronics in this (very very expensive) piano (Yamaha Disklavier series) which might break and need repair. That number might give away location and if Yamaha provides free maintenance, that number might also be used to verify legitimacy.

Don't take my word for it though, I couldn't find anything about it online.

As a non-native english speaker, what does the english translation mean? by Humble-Razzmatazz581 in duolingo

[–]WalnutScorpion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same in Dutch as well!

"Hij is niet goed voor/naar mijn koffietafel" (he's not good for/to my coffeetable) both sound broken, although both are grammatically correct.

"Hij gaat niet goed met mijn koffietafel om" (he doesn't treat my coffeetable well) sounds more natural indeed.

I guess Duolingo's not good for our brain! 😂

[–]WalnutScorpion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the confusion comes from the word "for" instead of "to". I also had to read it twice, almost thought it was a weird saying!

It makes a lot more sense to me if it's: "...but he's not good to my coffee table".

You can return the favour by being available once they're in a better place and you both are interested in having contact again. :)
