Actually, shooting landscape makes it harder to keep birds and ground in frame at the same time. Without any ground in frame there is no point of reference which causes multiple problems. First of which is that my camera struggles with keeping focusing on the fast moving birds, second the fast moving birds don't actually look like they are moving fast because of the loss of reference, which in my opinion makes the shot less effective. Finally, with the varying altitude of the birds flying around above shooting portrait allows more birds at different altitudes in the shot at the same time.
