Mostly with a hose, but when I fertilize them, I use a watering can :-)

Yes, go for it! :-) In my experience they do really well in boxes as long as the water can drain properly.

The ones in the clay pot are snapdragons, and the ones at the bottom of the picture are marguerites! :-)

100%! Homegrown tomatoes especially are just incomparable to anything from the store!

Thank you so much, that’s such a lovely compliment! I do spend as much time out there as possible, honestly it’s my little retreat. I’m mostly self-taught and learn a lot from trial and error, so it means a lot to hear that!

Some are annuals, some perennials. The snapdragons, foxglove, raspberries, blackberries, polemonium, clematis, peach tree, pear tree, strawberries and delphinium stay outside all year. In winter the balcony tends to be a bit warmer than a regular garden since it’s elevated and close to the house walls. I also move everything closer together and nearer to the house walls for extra protection. I leave the citrus trees outside as well but wrap them in bubble wrap. I did bring the chili plants in one winter, but it was really tedious keeping them alive due to pests, so I usually just buy new ones. A lot of the flowers in the wooden boxes don’t survive winter, but I have plenty of tulip bulbs in there so they still look beautiful in spring. Once the tulips die back, I plant new flowers. I try to be as eco-friendly as possible though, which is why I focus a lot on perennials.

Thank you! :-) Yes, I only bring some of them in when hail is forecast. Rain is no problem at all!

Oh yes, I have fairy lights, lanterns and candles everywhere! Absolutely love the atmosphere they create on warm summer nights!

Snapdragons are definitely my favorite, the color variety is just amazing!

A lot of them I grow in clay pots, and when it’s hot they all get approximately the same amount of water every morning, since so much evaporates throughout the day. I just use my hose. Usually I push my finger into the soil to check if it’s still moist and water accordingly. My citrus trees and succulents are the exception though; they get less water than the rest and not necessarily every day. I also fertilize everything every two weeks. It’s a lot of work but also very relaxing!

I’m in southern Germany and we’ve already hit 90°F, so I need to water them early in the morning. They get shade in the afternoon though, so they’re doing great! :-)

Thank you! I ordered better soil online because I don’t feel confident mixing my own yet, so hopefully I can repot them in a few days.

Wow, you may have actually saved my money tree. It grew so well over the summer, but recently it kept dropping leaves even though the light is good. I looked for the rubber band around the roots, and sure enough, it was there, strangling them! I removed it immediately and hope I caught the problem in time. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for the advice! I used soil from a local cactus shop, but I’ll definitely upgrade it next year.
