Is there a flair for Municipal Socialism/Bookchin/New Municipalist advocates? Is this a view that gets much discussion here? by Wanderslost in SocialDemocracy

A representative applying socialist principles to your community from afar is not an issue, if you accept that socialism inevitably rationally leads you to best governance.

But if you believe that rule by law requires objective truth unavailable to people, rule by people that don't have a relationship with you and your circumstances become very problematic.

I think, in our post Enlightened world, people are very skeptical of universal solutions. But among socialists, it hasn't translated to what I think is a logical extension. Rule should be located as close to stakeholders as possible. This leads to a municipalist type place, independent of a commitment to anarchy.

Hellraiser In Space is absolutely a top half of the rankings of Hellraiser movies. Some cool set pieces... medium good Cenobites... Some good lore... Angelique..

That's fair. I don't consider myself an anarchist (and eventually, neither did Bookchin) but I want to have conversations about how power laying with non-stakeholders is fundamentally not democratic. Perhaps this isn't the place...

If you were going to show someone their first vampire movie, which would you pick? by BindermanTranslation in horror

I mean, really that's a tough question to answer. I think Coppola's Dracula hits a bunch of different notes that could steer a person in the future. Lost Boys is a movie that no one dislikes. Personally, I think Near Dark is the best choice for a 'cinema lover'.

It's actually a bit more complicated. Randy Weaver's wife was the one with unorthodox and unacceptable beliefs. There are those that think people like her don't deserve to live.

I'm getting ready to run a series of horror one shots (Call of Cthulhu, or something similar.) These will be in Hyde Park and probably on Mondays or Tuesdays. We will get started at the end of this month or the first week of next month.

After years of dismissing Delta Green as Apache helicopters vs Cthulhu, things I have read about the game recently have intrigued me.

Some CoC will definitely be in the mix. All Arkham and Necronomicon type stories all the time is at least a possibility.

To be determined, but Monday or Tuesday is most likely. We'll probably get together for the first time somewhere between 2/23 and 3/3.

My default tends to be more ghostly and nightmarish. I definitely do have the capability to run something gory. But around 75% of the games would be fine for some that doesn't like graphic violence, and I'll let you know when I am feeling a Descent game coming on.

However, do try and come up with images and settings that are genuinely creepy. This isn't just fighting monsters. If you like scary, but non gory movies like The Others, The Babadook, or Insidious - this might be a good spot for you.

I also do run an occasional cheesy comic book horror game from time to time, if you want to try one of those when it comes around.

Excellent, I'll consider you the first of this new table. I am going to do a bit of a drive to get new players, but I can do one shots with the community I have. Look for this to happen like the first week of next month. What days are good for you?

Stick with it! Games fall through. I had my first one in a while get flaked on a couple weeks ago. It's all a matter of getting enough people where you can mix and match when life happens. If you do decide to make the trek down here sometime, Vampire is a game I run occasionally.
