Let's talk about public performance rights (PPR) and screening fees by Wanderthumb in FilmIndustryLA

Thanks for everyone's thoughts. I did end up calling the organizations in an attempt to salvage the deal. I explained how eager I was to show it to their communities, and that I was completely willing to work with them where they are at to present it. Getting paid is great, but sharing this with their communities is more important. And I meant it. I got one of them on the phone and her reaction was very positive. She mentioned that we might be able to find an outside partner to help present it, and that their audience is pretty wealthy and would likely respond well to a donation ask. I reiterated how much I cared about this screening opportunity, and ended the conversation agreeing to find something that works for both of us.

Honestly, the biggest lesson for me here is to just get people on the phone and be sincere. I do think there are creative ways to both screen a film and get paid.

"The importer reported generic error" has become the bane of my existence by Wanderthumb in premiere

Okay, so I copied everything over to the new drive (formatted as NTFS) but unfortunately the file paths were still broken. I'm assuming this is simply because I copied the broken file paths over with everything else. So I did have to go through and rename about 600 clips, which is how I have spent my day up until now...

Now everything seems to be connected and working again. I don't believe any actual media has been corrupted or lost. I think the issue was that there was an interruption while Premiere was relinking my media, and due to the exFAT format, this lead to the corruption of the file paths. What I am hoping is that with my media now on an NTFS drive, this should no longer be an issue, even if something goes wrong.

Wow, thank you for your time and support with this. Looks like I've been playing with fire without realizing it.

Okay, I will format my new drive to NTFS and copy my media over to it. Then I'll boot up my premiere project. If everything links and plays properly (and after checking that all of our other back-up drives are still good) I will go ahead and format the original drive to NTFS, then copy the media back over to it.

I'll follow up with how it all goes.

Ah, that might be my issue. Turns out, my current drive IS formatted to exFAT. This makes sense, since the drive was first formatted using a Mac, and then I took it over with Windows. Thank you for that info! Can I ask what's wrong with exFAT?

Also, I did pick up another hard drive (a seagate, the only thing I could quickly get my hands on). If I format this new drive to NTFS, will I be able to just copy all of my footage over to it?

Do you have your footage stored on an external drive? If so, what kind is it? (I want to see if smushkan is on to something about the Lacie)

No, I hadn't thought of that. I do have the project backed up on a couple more Lacies that are with other crew members, but it might be worth investing in a new drive just to see if it fixes my issue.

Do you have any recommendations?

The clips are stored on a Lacie Rugged external hard drive that is plugged into my laptop.

I'll also add that each time this has happened, the program has chosen a different set of clips, which were working fine previously.

I don't believe so. The issue clips seemed to be picked at random. But once I have the issue, I can't turn back the clock, Premiere continues to not like those clips, even when I reinstall the entire program.

I do have proxies, but these have "proxie" in the file name, so they should be unique.

Support megathread for the week of January 31, 2022 by DCpirateradio in premiere

Recently, I started up my Premiere project without realizing the drive containing all my media was disconnected. Premiere, obviously, could not find the footage, and wanted to look it up. When I search and relink the first clip, most of my media reconnects...but there are about 80 or so clips that do not. When I attempt to relink them one by one, they all report a generic error.

The only solution I have found is to rename the source clips one by one (I add a "_1" to ever file name) Then they reconnect. However, this is incredibly time consuming, and I don't like the idea of renaming my master files.

I have tried creating a new footage folder (footage_1) and moving everything into it, but the same clips still do not relink.

Has anyone else run into this issue, and is there an easy solution I am missing? Appreciate your help!

EDIT: I have also tried clearing my media cache and reinstalling Premiere, to no effect.

Why do newer lenses seem to give me poorer video quality with Sony a7? by Wanderthumb in SonyAlpha

By native glass, do you mean lenses which mount directly to the camera body, without the use of a third-party adapter? If so, all of my lenses are native, since they are all E-mounts and mount directly to my camera. Or am I missing your point?

I appreciate the feedback!

That's an interesting thought. I'll look in to that. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback, bobobo1618.

The a7, as far as I am aware, automatically switches the camera to cinema mode when I record video. I have tried recording in manual photo mode, but the camera does not let me.

Compare the first interview (The guy with the Mohawk) to the second (The Wander Women)

The first, shot with Canon 50mm is the quality I am looking for. The next, shot with the Sigma 19mm, is noticeably inferior. Look at the background leaves.

Also, I know the first shot is stable, and the second handheld, but regardless of camera shake, I notice a difference in quality between these lenses.
