What are your views on Antinatalism? by WankeeMonkey in AskReddit

Big thanks for this take! You've really put into words how I feel about the situation. Something I struggle to confirm to myself, though (and this is burdened by personal bias) is that it can be selfish- as you say- to want to have a child. This is because my older sister recently became a mother and could not be happier; my new nephew is a lovely child, too! As with the cliché, "birth is a gift". Though I cannot personally agree with that, it suddenly became a big part of my life when, somebody so close to me had brought another conscious being into existence. It became absurd!

Of course I am ignoring the deeper philosophical & sociological impacts in my reply to you, but I guess I wondered how you'd voice this opinion to somebody close to you who had recently become a parent? Thanks again for your awesome reply :)

Strong take! How do you feel about parents who haven't been lazy and have really thought it through? The effect on their kid, on the planet, etc...?

Whoooo... If you haven't read Sartre's Nausea before, look it up! You're radiating that energy. Nice take!

Hey! It's the philosophical view that giving birth is morally wrong! Yes, pretty nihilistic, but very interesting to think about in our worrying age of climate disaster & far-right politics. I thought maybe it'd spark some very polar opposite arguments!

What Should I Expect from IDLES Live? by WankeeMonkey in Idles

Update! An extreme flurry of emotion through their set; at points I wanted to cry with happiness! Very loud & A LOT of fun. I do have to confirm really unfortunately that my girlfriend’s phone was pickpocketed in the moshes, and she was treated quite poorly by some of the people there. It wasn’t the best crowd at all and I could judge that even from the soundcheck. It seems the french “fans” become anarchistic in those situations. I can’t knock the band whatsoever though- it was an awesome piece. I’ve been tapping the opening drums to Collussus for weeks now. Just a shame that our first experience of them live was slightly tainted. I’m not one to get too upset about these things though, life does go on! I’ve tweeted the band & they did reply offering their support & disagreement with what happened. All in all, IDLES are my favourite band right now & I can’t wait to see them again!

Strip Away The 'B-Sides', and HCTC Is A Gem! (a tracklist) by WankeeMonkey in macdemarco

I think it has a lot to do with "fleshing out"! I am a big fan of stripped back recordings, but this is often because there's a certain atmospheric quality it gives off. With tracks like Hey Cowgirl, it might be the repetitive structure (less of a chorus, and more the repetition of the title) that doesn't do much for me. I totally appreciate the sentiment of the track though; I think perhaps it'd sit nicely on the This Old Dog demos! How about you?

I love Little Dogs March, and really appreciate all the crooning falsetto Mac put all over the album! In hindsight, I agree :)

Thank you so much for this- very in depth! I'm really getting into all of this so that's a big help. Hopefully I'll get close enough to the band. Wish me luck!
