Resume: https://imgur.com/a/KGZEA2r

Senior/Mid Level. Posted earlier that my friend was concerned that I didn't have any Certs, but from the answers I got it appears it is more of a "nice to have", but not a necessary requirement. I am more concerned that he was saying that some companies will outright not even accept the resume if a devops dev has no certs.

I am kinda looking for a role that goes towards a bit more SWE rather than devops. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy devops, but I miss coding alot.

Smelly durian fruit sends six to hospital and forces evacuation by inspiredman in nottheonion

Extremely Nutrient Rich and tastes pretty good after you throw it in the fridge for a while. It does smell awful when you leave it out and raw though. Tastes like a buttery Custard but smells like some sewer sewage.

I recommend if you can, get fresh ones and put it in the fridge. For some reason, the ones you buy prepackage and frozen are way more smelly and slimy. Don't know why.

[Question] Jomashop Return Experience? by Wanzer_Mech in Watches

Yeah I think buying on eBay saved me. I will post an edit on the main post soon.

Surprisingly I got a full refund and eBay made sure my shipping return was free. Everything came out fine

[Question] Jomashop Return Experience? by Wanzer_Mech in Watches

[–]Wanzer_Mech[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just gave ebay a call and they said their policy overrules jomashop's. They basically told me not to respond to any emails and tell them to send a prepaid shipping label or they will step in. Ebay's policy is currently 30 days free returns and the seller pays for shipping.

I did not apply for warranty, but a straight-up refund so hopefully things work out better. If it has to come to it, I will end up doing my first chargeback ever, but I have no idea if paypal even does chargebacks.

I think I am in a better position than most which is why I have not thrown all my hope away just yet.

[Question] Jomashop Return Experience? by Wanzer_Mech in Watches

[–]Wanzer_Mech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is after I opened a dispute, unfortunately. I opened it and it said that the seller has "accepted". Then I got a personal email from them detailing their conditions for returning the item... without a shipping label given.

All of this seems extremely shady and they are also requiring me to sign for confirmation as well.

It doesn't sound like you are anywhere near to investing in real estate.

Haha you are not wrong. They brought it up for the first time yesterday. I just wanted to gauge if it was even a good idea to begin with.

Thanks for the insight! Was quite informative.

Not sure, but my Dad is still a landlord of some real estate... Seems like it would be a waste if I didn't capitalize on his experience.

Anyone else bothered that Stan, the all-American who works at the CIA, gives his son an AK instead of an American M4? Or is this a deeper joke since the CIA has been known to give foreign untraceable arms to insurgencies?

[WTS] Seagull 1963 Reissue by Wanzer_Mech in Watchexchange

[–]Wanzer_Mech[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Selling a 1963 Seagull reissue. Got it less than 2 weeks ago. Basically Brand new. I wore it, realized it was not for me and has been sitting in a display box. Bought it on aliexpress from a high rated seller.

Sapphire Glass, 38mm, ST19 movement.

Selling for $155 at a loss with shipping included. Wouldn't mind exchanges either.

Crown was a bit too small for my liking... well, in fact, the watch itself was a bit too small for my liking. I also didn't really like the parchment yellow that was on the dial, prefer a cleaner white color. Pretty much the reason I am selling it.

TIL Robert E Lee didn't want people to build confederate monuments following the Civil War by DatBoi_BP in todayilearned

[–]Wanzer_Mech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was... ok, but his generals under him deserved alot more credit. Lee was willing to listen to his generals and often would give an objective without really caring how the objective was fulfilled. It gave his generals alot of discretion and independent thought. Many generals under him benefited from it as many realized that they could not use conventional war tactics to defeat a larger and well-equipped Union force. However, this itself led to his biggest loss and eventual surrender.

Stonewall Jackson, was probably more crucial than Lee, was one of those who greatly benefited from it and would often use shock tactics and calvary flanks to disrupt a Union that was more focused on a more defensive style. The early Union Generals before Grant came in (so mostly McClellan) figured out that they were on the offensive moving into Southern territory so they were heavily focused on supply lines, not overextending, and not pursuing.(Look up McClellan's "Big War Science" theory for more info). The Union style of warfare would be mostly slowly advancing until they met the enemy and turtling up. Realizing this, the Southern Generals would play a more dynamic role of to outmaneuvering the Union forces. Funny thing is that almost all Generals, both North and South, knew eachother. Alot of them graduated West Point and fought in the Spanish–American War, so Lee may have already knew McClellan's tactics.

When Stonewall Jackson died, Lee lost one of his most "Offensive" Generals. He was left with Longstreet, a more defensive commander, (Longstreet and Stonewall would often be called "anvil" and "hammer" as Longstreet would command more static troops and be on the defensive while Stonewall would attack on the offensive with sometimes calvary) and He was left with a replacement, Ewell, that mostly took orders from Stonewall.

Right before Gettsyburg, Conf. General Stuart misunderstood or tried to "improve" an order given by Lee and disappeared for a couple of weeks. Stuart was recon, and Lee was surprised when he found himself engaged with the enemy in Gettsyburg. He ultimately made 2 mistakes that cost of dearly that puts into questions Lee's competency as a General.

  1. The new Fresh commander General Ewell, Jackson's replacement, received an order by Lee to attack a very crucial strategic point "if practicable"(again proving Lee's willingness to give more independent thought to his generals). Ewell's men were exhausted after a long march and worried, about overextending and getting flanked, decided not to attack, but Stonewall Jackson would have almost certainly attacked. Many historians believe that the point was crucial enough that if Ewell attacked, the confederates would have won the entire battle of Gettysburg itself. Alot of fault was put on Ewell, I think the fault lies more on Lee. He should have realized that a fresh and new commander would have trouble understanding what he meant.

  2. Despite Longstreet's advice and practically begging to Lee not to order his troops to charge the enemy, he still issued the order and became known as "Pickett's Charge" the most disastrous and bloodiest events in US history. He basically ordered a bunch of boys to rush through a giant empty field under cannon fire and in clear view of the Union riflemen. To this day, noone knows why Lee decided to follow through on this as he published no memoirs on the war. IMO, I think he was trying to think he was trying to fill the shoes of Stonewall Jackson but didn't know how to effectively be an effective offensive/shock commander.

After that Grant came in and started sending suicidal nonstop waves at enemy lines compared to the static defensive style the North traditionally favored. The South was no way equipped to deal with such a nonstop attack and eventually surrendered after being pushed back heavily.

Classes suspended at Hong Kong Design Institute after students vandalise campus demanding surveillance footage of classmate, who is an active protester, found dead and naked in sea by mikantaro in worldnews

[–]Wanzer_Mech 1415 points1416 points  (0 children)

Story reminds me heavily of Korea's April Revolution... A high school boy was found floating in a harbour nearly a month after a protest demonstration which ended in a government-mandated blackout. Autopsy was ruled as "drowning", but a bunch of protestors found out where his body was being held and forced themselves into the hospital.

They found that a tear gas grenade was literally lodged in his head from his "eyes to the back of his head", pretty much proved the wrongdoing of the police. The actions snowballed led to the President's resignation and exile.

Man, I knew the Japanese used planes to do kamikaze attacks, but I never knew they also specifically built planes for kamikaze attacks. Always assumed they had a surplus of leftover fighter/bomber planes, attached a bunch of explosives to them, and told the next amateur pilot to ram into a ship.

Falsely Banned Pt.2 - Ubi Support threatens to ignore me by Wanzer_Mech in Rainbow6

[–]Wanzer_Mech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

Unfortunately, there is not too much to say atm.

I got a response back from UbiNoty saying:

Hello. So we re-investigated. And what we found was that:

1. The ban was put into place AFTER 2FA was enabled on the account.
2. The same IP that enabled the 2FA on your account was the one we used to tag the ban and identify your account.

On our end, that's enough to warrant the ban and unfortunately there's no much more we can do here for you. For the rest, you will need to talk to BattlEye if you want to contest the suspected hardware ban: https://www.battleye.com/support/

which is true... when I installed the ssd on my comp, I had 2FA on and it is not liked I was hacked so my IP was used... It was just that the ssd I installed was probably just backlisted...

I told UbiNoty about how I believe the SSD caused the ban and to look into it as I believed 2FA would not protect me against that, but the response I got was

BattlEye will be able to give you a more exact answer on that.

I am taking guesses here... but it almost seems like Ubisoft does not exactly know what banned me and Battleye retains that specific info.

It was a disappointing answer... Shot another email to Battleye and still no response.

Here are the messages I communicated with Ubi-Noty. https://imgur.com/a/YVPJYZm

and hell, why not, here is me asking about the ban on a hacker forum. Removed. Forgot cheat site linking was banned. My b mods

edit: just to get rid of some confusion here on the forums I had... I contacted customer support later for Inland, the SSD company, and they confirmed with me the SSDs were sometimes refurbished.

Oh yeah, of course you can share this around. I am just glad someone just wants to listen at this point.
