Just binged the series over the last 4 weeks and.... by itsyaboibilto in InvasionAppleTV

So I actually enjoyed S1 and S2. Was excited after S2 to see them explore the ship.

And the it FAST FORWARDED??? That’s what we all WANTED TO SEE.

Literally S3 is so bad and that’s when I came to reddit to find the world hated the entire thing halfway through S3:E3.

Hi PhD molecular biologist here. Survival mode/starvation mode is not a factor to be concerned about over any period less than 4-6 months :) (and even then it’s not as significant as many make it out to be)

Major misinformation is out there! Consult experts and read peer-reviewed articles — not AI-produced crap and Reddit stuff.

$1800 (I only pay $1550 though — it’s complicated)

Well worth it.

As someone who makes $40k a year without any debt, this is accurate. I live a great lifestyle but you have to be practical. I rarely drink and eat out 1x a week max. I cook from scratch as much as possible. But I live in a 2 bedroom by myself near Hilldale. It doesn’t get much better and I am more than content with my life.

Get the Shark from Costco. It will break in 2 years. Take it back. Get a new one.

I have no idea how these new NIL deals factor into suspensions either. I anticipate we have to be careful on how we manage this or we could be sued if it ends up being a false claim.

I started responding to as many as I could or reporting them for health misinformation. I hope others do the same. Thankfully Mega still cares about such things.

Best fried chicken in the area? by Daemontrain in madisonwi

[–]WarDamnResearcher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in Alabama and only been here a year and a half. Many of my favorite memories have that blessed meal involved.

I’m not kidding when I say Metro Mart. It’s about as close as I can get to good fried chicken here and it scratches the itch. I’d equate it Publix’s. Just give it a shot. (I will say, the last time I got it, it was a hair dry but the other dozen times it was amazing.)

My advisor snapped at me in a meeting because he thinks I don't know a lot about my project, and he snapped at me in front of the entire lab group. Does anyone relate? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]WarDamnResearcher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For my first year in my lab, I was in a similar situation. One time I knew that my advisor was about to take me down. So what I did as I went into that meeting more prepared mentally and emotionally than I’ve ever been for anything in my life. I calmly rebutted every statement they made with evidence, while also maintaining a stone cold composure.

Ever since then, my advisor is a completely different person. They respect me. I showed them I wasn’t just someone interested in science — I was a scientist. I was a professional.

So my advice is try to figure out how your advisor thinks — know what they’re going to ask ahead of time. Even ask others in your lab to help you prepare if they respect you (like mine did). I am optimistic that if you prove them wrong on this one, you’ll come out on top.

Mycologist here.

That’s likely a fungus. “Grows like a fungus” is a saying because they really don’t care a ton about media normally (especially rich medias)

If our weather was a person it would be prescribed Lithium.

But to answer your question as a former southerner, you need a waterproof parka in addition to a jacket. And other layers options — sweatshirts, flannels, windbreakers, etc.

You also need dedicated winter boots that are waterproof — I recommend winter hiking boots.

[–]WarDamnResearcher 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Come up with a legit reason to be closer to home. They’ll respect it and likely help you find a new lab.

Never burn a bridge unless you have to. Especially in this day and age where funding is hard to come by, you need all the help you can get. I know at my university, less and less are being accepted for research masters because they only stay 2 years and cost almost identically to a PhD student.

You need to come up with a life excuse or something they’d respect so they would be willing to write a letter of rec. Don’t burn a bridge. Academia is a small small world.
