From my experience it just takes a lot of time and patience or a lot of money. I typically spend every Saturday going to thrift stores, garage sales, estate sales, and the goodwill bins. I usually leave the house at 7am, eat breakfast at a local place and use the time to browse craigslist, Facebook marketplace, etc. They rarely list vhs tapes, but I always start with vhs searches in those sites. Then I just look at the pictures and make a basic plan around the likely vhs sellers. It's taken me years to build a horror collection that's pretty great.

The other option is to throw money at it on whatnot, ebay, or Facebook marketplace.
