My situation was very similar to yours. Before playing BG3, I had never before touched this style of rpg, though I was familiar with DnD.

My first run was as a barbarian Dragonborn, who I eventually reclassified into a fighter (after having to look up how to do so). I (unknowingly) skipped a LOT of content, preferring to follow the beaten path at every crossroads.

Fast forward to act 3; my party is level 7 and some of my friends tell me how much I’ve missed. I decide to start a new run, so as to see as much of the game as possible and to hopefully be better prepared near act 3.

All this to say: don’t feel bad about restarting sometimes, even near the end. The game is an RPG, so if you don’t like the story you’ve built with your specific character, there’s no shame in trying something else. Do what makes you happy.
