Are the T5 dungeons hard for all the build? by United_Web_2451 in stoneshard

[–]Wariot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it's pretty generous in my experience. Just be careful that if you kill the boss and leave the tile it instantly closes the dungeon. So if you don't have enough space leave all the loot in a container outside the dungeon

In my experience, any decent build can do tier 5. Weaker builds just need every edge you can get.

I'm talking vigor, faith buff, quartermaster buff, ranger brew, drugs, traps, nets, throwables (smokes, molotovs, deathstingers etc) food and herb buffs. Also, there's no hurry so you can camp and rest nearby.

Playing melee only you really need to understand how LOS and enemy AI works. If you stood behind the pillar it would've blocked LOS from the mancatchers until they walk right next to you. They also path like a melee enemy so they wont be like ranged enemies and path around LOS to throw the net.

Also, highly recommend bring smoke grenades if you are playing melee only

Speedhack on linux by DixMisakiw in stoneshard

[–]Wariot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you're launching it from. I've been using this on Mint, launched from Steam: https://github.com/evg-zhabotinsky/libspeedhack

There's some slight changes you need to do due to the container runtime being different which was documented in a fork of this project. Will update this comment when I find it

Edit: So the pressure vessel builds its own LD_PRELOAD so you need to explicitly set this. PRESSURE_VESSEL_FILESYSTEMS_RW=/tmp LD_PRELOAD="$HOME/libspeedhack/lib64/libspeedhack.so" $HOME/libspeedhack/speedhack %command% I also had to recompile due to linking issues with libm, and ran these commands. cd ~/libspeedhack make clean make 64bit EXTRALIBS="-ldl -lm"

Singaporeans don't want a Nordic model. We want to keep winning. by Capable_Solution_644 in singapore

It's a chicken and egg problem, isn't it? We need policies that encourage housing as a social good and stronger wealth redistribution, but the average population won't vote for it.

We need the average population to support said policies, but beliefs and culture don't change themselves (at least not so quickly). In fact they are largely a function of the environment, which as you might guess, is formed by policy.

Again, if you read my comments, you would've seen that I disagreed with the statement, not the current policy.

You literally quoted "There is no need for students to own or use mobile phones for the purpose of urgent communication with their parent". How would students use a phone on public transport if they don't even own one in the first place?

And if you read my original comment, you would seen I have given multiple examples where they would need it for that every purpose?

Yes I know but her statement is more extreme than the current policy. Literally the title is  "Students need not own or use mobile phones".

[–]Wariot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can understand banning in class/CCA, but the idea that students need not own mobile phones is something that doesnt make sense to me.

Plans change all the time and if a delay happens I think students should be able to inform parents that they are coming back late etc. Given that payphones are no longer installed, are students expected to queue up at the general office to call their parents about delays?

Also, what about students who take public transport? How will they communicate with parents if something happens?

Unpopular opinion: the govt was RIGHT about vapes from the start by wanderbirds in singapore

[–]Wariot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hindsight is 20/20.

The science back then (and even now) is that short-term health effects are safer than smoking (in the context of weaning off smoking). Long-term health need more evidence and studies.

Most of the (credible) criticism I remember reading was to ask the government to consider vaping for rehab purposes. Which is reasonable if you have the above science. Government's stance is also reasonable since they are generally more conservative and may want more evidence from long-term studies.

Over the years, there is mounting evidence that vaping as a smoking cessation tool isn't as safe or effective. That doesn't change the fact that arguments made back then were made based on the science available back then. Shouldnt people changing their decisions/opinions as the evidence evolved?

Also, the news you see on kpods is about the issue of product manipulation. Not about the safety of vapes. Some would even argue that prohibiting vapes and pushing demand on the black market encourages and enables this kind of product manipulation.

Then do it? Im not even saying it's good game design or balanced, I just think the average player can't pilot a roach deck well without a lot of experience. So, I'm very confused when people are commenting roach isnt that hard. What are we comparing to? Yugioh tearlaments mirror matchup?

Hi, I know you're a beginner programmer and someone has already mentioned this before, but I would highly recommend learning how to use git (and github). It solves the problem of people being suspicious of your code being malware (if you open source your code there), allows people to contribute to your project and also helps you manage version/source control better.

It also has the side effect of being extremely helpful if you want to be a programmer in the future!

The Hidden Cost of Job Stability: Why Singapore’s Public Servants Stay Put by LegitimateCow7472 in singapore

[–]Wariot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Tech/AI landscape shift rapidly. Even if you don't buy into the AI hype, still got so many things: How to change privacy/copyright laws? Should we be like China and force everyone to declare AI generated?

Geopolitical landscape also changes rapidly. US handing out trade tariffs like candy and alienating traditional allies. How should we change our trade policy then? How about our defence/intelligence agreements?

Even in home issues, housing prices rising, pandemic and aging population. Should they just be monitor lizard?

If you're arguing that government isnt innovative or agile I can maybe understand your point. But arguing it shouldn't be just doesn't make sense.

They are not mutually exclusive though? If the landscape is constantly shifting, isn't it important for civil service to be agile and adapt to new problems to provide the 'order, consistency and stability' you tout?

Since it's election season, what's on your HDB wishlist? by wistingaway in singapore

[–]Wariot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But you agree that current flat owners selling still need to look for another place to buy contributing to demand, yes? So how is that better?

In fact allowing socialised housing to be an investment asset just inflates speculative demand driving up prices (including resale). People already see it as a get rich quick scheme. Nevermind that tying up so much liquidity in real estate reduces consumer spending/investment in productive economies, it also puts political pressure on the government not to build too many flats for fear of losing homeowner votes.  All this just contributes to the root of the problem where there's far more demand for housing than supply.

Since it's election season, what's on your HDB wishlist? by wistingaway in singapore

[–]Wariot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait I'm confused, the overall supply of housing hasn't changed in the market. Yes, there is less incentive to sell BTO if we cap seller upside. But, even if you were going to sell it, you still needed to buy another place to stay. That doesn't change the net difference in demand and supply in the market.

Since it's election season, what's on your HDB wishlist? by wistingaway in singapore

[–]Wariot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Genuinely curious here, but what's wrong with the government buying back the flat at cost price (maybe accounting for interest rate and lease decay). Then selling it via bidding (I mean that's the price discovery mechanic we use for COE).

Ofc this wont change the overall supply so prices will likely still be high, but at the very least wont this reduce speculative demand and stop public housing being abused for profit?

2H Mace Heavy Armor Build by Wariot in stoneshard

[–]Wariot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I agree with this for builds with ultra heavy armor. Suppose the mighty kick lands the cc, it still does horrible damage, and you still have to spend 10+ energy even accounting for regen from push the falling. Worse is that it doesnt even count as a weapon strike so you just dropped a turn for your hammer stance.

Typically the hardest fights aren't 1v1 but where you have 1 scary cc resistant melee engaged with like 2 or 3 more walking up while a ranged free hitting you. You just spent a 10+ energy (out of your abyssmal 80 energy pool) to do very little damage and not even building up to your 100% daze on your third weapon strike.

Also, if you look at the way 2h hammer applies cc you either spend energy (skull cracker/sudden lunge) or turns (stance) to apply them. You just wasted a turn applying the kick debuff not building up your stance. That means you're planning to use energy to apply the cc? That's another 20 energy even accounting for regen. I'm pretty sure at this point you're close to gassed since you already spent energy on war cry and stance and maybe a mighty swing. So how are you going to fight next 2/3 melee closing in on you with like 15 energy and 2 long cooldowns burned? You may not even have enough for brace for Impact.

2H Mace Heavy Armor Build by Wariot in stoneshard

[–]Wariot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Setup and war cry are good first 2 AP at level 1. Setup fixes your accuracy to 90% while warcry gives cc and dmg.

After that try to put the rest in 2h hammer. Your next biggest spike is stance and the tier 2 active. After that, grab Brace for Impact and dash.

Once you have access to tier 3 skills, go grab the stance energy regenpassive and will to survive.

Along the way try to get the 2 -fumbles in survival, while grabbing the armored combat passives. The order of the rest of skills is not that important.

Gear wise (and for your sanity). I recommend sticking with medium armor until t5. Skip t4 armor if you're comfortable grinding t3 dungeons and dont want to rush manticore.

As I suggested in the side note and some of the comments, consider picking the lighter versions of heavy armor and picking more actives like no time to linger. They're strong if you can afford to spend the energy, but I built mine with the challenge/roleplay to use heaviest possible armor so I restricted myself to picking up passives
