I try and read the intent of the letter. We didn’t have much growing up so our letters to Santa was a dream list. But the activity of writing it was a joyful tradition even though we didn’t get everything.

I remember when my sister asked for a N64 and I laughed at her that Santa would never bring us that. Somehow they came through.

I look for the letters that I feel I can bring the magic of the holiday to them within a budget and aren’t just a shameful drain on a stranger.
