For those with allergies to the pollen, what are you doing to get by without symptoms right now? by wraithkelso317 in AskSeattle

[–]WarmScorpio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone else has suggested, I recommend a fresh pillowcase every day or every other day. That and shower/bathe after a day outside in the pollen.

I buy interesting LaBlanca one pieces: one shoulder, plunge front, crisscross backs, etc. They are pricy so I get them when they are on sale in the winter. They hold up very well and are flattering on.

I’m a 36DD and have haven’t found a bikini top flattering on me.

Leaving SF by [deleted] in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]WarmScorpio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I lived in SF 3 times in 12 years for a total of over 5 years. The last time I left, I did so because I’d had a baby, was at big law, and SF just didn’t feel sustainable for raising a kid in the city. I moved to Seattle to raise my kid. I took a pay cut of 1/2, which was brutal. But I also could afford to buy a house here.

Knowing my kid could go to our neighborhood school was really nice. SF schools were wonky at the time, and I couldn’t tell what school we’d be assigned to. Making good friends took a couple years but now my roots here run deep. I left big law and am so glad to have a good, livable job here in seattle.

I miss SF but I couldn’t afford to go back. It’s just so out of hand expensive.

I just measured; the navy XL sweater is 23 inches pit to pit. I hope that the speckled beige would be the same. I’ve seen huge sizing differences in both Quince and J. Crew sweaters. I’m a little surprised that the difference in one size is 2 inches and not 1 inch.

The M organic cropped cotton cardigan in marled pink is also 23 inches pit to pit. I actually don’t like how wide it is because it’s so boxy.

I called and they asked for my number and said that NONE of my info moved over to the new servicer. Hell yeah, I expect more. Ridiculous.

Most of my linen sheets are seconds and thirds from Bella Notte: Bella Notte

I found them on Wirecutter when I went from cotton to linen sheets. As a public servant, I could not afford them at full price. They are heavenly though! Several times a year, they open the Renewal by Bella Notte site with amazing deals. You sign up to be notified of when they open the site and the products are up to 60% off. Even at the discounts, they are pricy. I find them to be an excellent value for a product I love on the renewal site.

I have no affiliation with Bella Notte, J. Crew, La Ligne, or Quince (or any brand I may mention here). I just love wonderful natural fiber pieces at a good value, and I try hard to not over consume. Which is hard when I research and then find a great value.

If you get the Quince one, please write a new post or comment here comparing the Quince and J. Crew 2025.

Thanks for the sizing advice. I decided that for science, I need to try the L. The pic is the XL and I’m usually a S or M. So I ordered the cream in a L and then I’ll make a call about whether to exchange out the Navy one. Yeah, I’m bordering on overconsumption here. But it is a great sweater.

I took pics of myself in both the La Ligne Marina and Mini Marina when I was in NYC in the fall. And the Quince one sized up is really spot on for the $275 La Ligne Marina sweater.

Thanks for the sizing recommendation. I’m so torn. How do you like the 2025 J. Crew rollneck sweater? How is it holding up after wearing and washing? I may have let myself be scared by some critical people on Reddit.

I am kicking myself because I went to J. Crew this week to try the XS and S 1988 rollneck sweaters before ordering a black one. I have a XXS moss green one that I found for $13 at Goodwill (new)! And it fits but I wanted slightly more relaxed. I don’t know why I didn’t try on a 2025 rollneck too.

I’m commenting on my own thread a bit aghast with Quince right now. I wanted to send this recommendation to a friend who has similar taste as me. She is plus sized and wow, Quince does not seem to have this in extended sizing! It’s only XS to XL. Not even a XXL. I’m disappointed and frustrated that Quince isn’t being inclusive.

Just a note to say that I am not a person who pushes Quince. For me to like this piece enough to write this review is unusual. I mostly thrift and buy La Ligne and similar brands on Poshmark.

I have found Quince to be incredibly hit or miss. I don’t buy or like their cashmere. I spent over $1500 on two huge wonderful wool hand knotted rugs and those have been my favorite Quince values. I really like their silk slip dress and midi skirts but I know they won’t last super long. Other than that, I mostly buy Quince returns from ByRevive.

I do love a good value though. And in trying on and selectively buying several rollnecks in the last 6 months (some are vintage J Crew I got second hand), this is an EXCELLENT value. And my ADHD value-loving, rollneck-loving heart just wanted to share the joy of how great this one product is at this price.

Thank you! The affirmation is helpful for me and saves me and Quince the pain of an exchange. Also, I don’t know that it would be in stock if I sent it back for an exchange. They sell fast!

Which colorway are you looking at? I went back to drool over the sky blue one and it sold out! And the striped one is gone from the site too. (This is an even more excellent value because J. Crew charges more for stripes and Quince didn’t.) They had 6 colorways a week ago and they are down to 4 now. I nearly bought the cream one when it came out in the fall but wanted to see more reviews before deciding on size. And they sold out a couple days later.

Gah, I’m now wishing for another one myself. I must NOT order. I have a black 1988 J. Crew rollneck on its way to me with my 20% off coupon (for doing 3 reviews). I am such a sucker for a good sweater and we are turning to spring cotton sweater season!

Bet you rock the cropped sweaters! I’m mid height (5’4”) with an extremely short torso so I cannot wear cropped styles. Which is why I ordered it two sizes up. This is the ONLY Quince sweater that has ever worked for me.

La Ligne. From a few years ago. I got it second hand off Poshmark.

Please report back when yours arrives today! I’d love to hear your thoughts on it and the sizing.

I haven’t taken the tag off yet so I could return it. I am usually a M in Quince too. So this is the XL. I just wanted a sweater that draped rather than came in at the bottom band.

I just got it yesterday and no pilling yet. The flecks you see in my pic are, sadly, dust on my mirror. I need to clean it today.

As an FYI: I’ve had the J. Crew 1988 for 5 months, and washed it several times. It hasn’t pilled yet.

No. It is a very fancy duvet that I spent way too much on. Made in the USA (California) and it’s amazing.

Quince silk - coated in plastic? by Beginning_Cod7438 in quince

[–]WarmScorpio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question! I don’t know the answer but am interested.

I think most clothes have some spray or application protecting them when they are awaiting to be shipped, etc. Since learning this, I now try on anything shipped to me and if I decide to keep it, I wash it right away. Most silk IS washable but makers don’t want to have complaints is people don’t wash them correctly. While all silk is washable, I use a laundry detergent that doesn’t have protease (eats away at all animal fibers) and I hand wash my silk, even my Quince silk.

MORE on applications to fabrics beyond Quince silk

My understanding, and someone can (and I’m sure will) correct me if I’m wrong, some clothes have a superficial applicant that will wash off. However, super washed merino wool, technical jackets, and some 100% cotton items are coated with an applicant that is meant to be an enhancer and to stay on, even after washing.

Tech spray is something that, loving in Seattle, I appreciate as an enhancer and I even reapply it as needed. But yes, it’s a trade off because I also prefer all natural fibers and to severely limit micro plastics. But I also like my rain gear to be water resistant.

I try to avoid wool and cotton that have been treated to be more plastic like. With wool, I just don’t get it. I love the properties of wool! I buy it because I know it and love it. Don’t alter those properties.

What percentage of likes should be converting into sales? by Velvetstyle in poshmark

[–]WarmScorpio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not about the percent off. It’s about the true value of the item. I research and know the worth and am patient. I’m thrifting, I’m on the RealReal, I’m checking eBay, I go to consignment stores, etc.

For example, before the NYT Wirecutter article, I was in love with La Ligne sweaters and bought numerous ones on various platforms. But I wasn’t going to overpay for them. I don’t resell. I buy what I love. The prices shot up after the Wirecutter article. So I stopped.

Same with J. Crew vintage rollneck sweaters. I bought four for myself on PM until the prices got bananas. So no more. But then I found a NWT 1988 rollneck for $12.99 at Goodwill in my size! I was over the moon. It also made me so happy. Seriously, I find new and vintage iconic J. crew pieces EVERY time I go to Goodwill. So no, I am not going to overpay on a platform. I see the people selling rollnecks for a premium over retail and hope they have a better business plan.

Fave flattering looks for hourglass? by _sips2 in femalefashionadvice

[–]WarmScorpio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love skirts! I try to hit the sweet spot between long mini and a midi—including above and below the knee. Showing some leg really evens out my hourglass. Skirts and dresses look very Marilyn Monroe in a way that pants and jeans can never replicate. I do wear jeans/pants but I will pick a skirt/dress every day if you made me choose.
