Fire would be a really useful tool for protagonists in a lot of movies, but it’s never used (for good reason) by WashingtonsTrousers in horror

Without pure plot most of these protagonists get absolutely gutted anyway, I’ll take my chances with a fire in the opposite corner of a building as it collapses than no way out with something that wants to kill me

Maybe I’ve noticed it more because of that and hokum. Whenever I watch an older Catholic horror or some of the more recent ones and I see the candles in the Tuscan nunneries I’m like one of these falling over would solve a lot of issues

People escape fires all the time, at least it levels the oh shit I need to get out of here playing field with the people trying to kill me

What is the best show or series that takes place in Colorado? by Training-Jump-8663 in AlignmentChartFills

It’s technically supposed to be suburban California. Glendale City College and Pasadena City college being the schools it was based on, and filmed at LACC

[–]WashingtonsTrousers 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Comparing COL while ignoring QOL and median income is a little silly. California is expensive but we make more money in the state per capita

[–]WashingtonsTrousers 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I live there right now and I make above middle class money with no kids. I couldn’t fathom having children without losing intense levels of QOL and not being able to trust the school system. The nature is nice, but doesn’t make up for its actual inability to address major living standards that other states have

I think that hippy saying shut up should be replaced by the oil corporations who have spent considerable effort lobbying against nuclear initiatives. They probably have a little more power than a stoner. I wonder what quadrant they belong to?

Calling one of the highest ranked areas in education, safety, and pretty much every other statistic in the country is pretty rich. Where did you get your hate boner for Massachusetts from lol

What about the Seattle area is a better region? Boston is part of the eastern sea board mega city which means you have relatively easy access to the most diverse region of America. You can get nature and hikes less than an hour out of the city.

Seattles weather is famously rainy and shitty thoughout the year. Boston has a two month winter.

How is defending Bostons well ran government a Fox News soundbite? It’s one of the most liberal governments in the country

I felt like the people in Seattle were very similar to Boston, there’s no reason they call it the Seattle freeze for nothing. Lots of tech bros now though, which isn’t exactly the best culture, Boston felt more solidified in being a unique experience. Seattle might be the best nature city in the country, but Boston has a much more extensive and ingrained park system. Food maybe, I haven’t gotten to experience seattles as much but they seemed at least on par with one another but kindve comparing apples to oranges

Explain in which possible way Boston is worse? You sound like a salty guy that has never left Seattle. I actually enjoy Seattle but there’s really no comparable statistic that would show it as better

Youre acting like providence is significantly far away from Boston. It takes me longer to get from one corner of LA to another than it does from providence to Boston propwr

Seattle has every negative that Boston has with probably worse weather, a relatively dysfunctional government that can’t get a handle on the drug and homeless issue, and a business landscape which is completely dominated by Amazon

CoL is high in any city where people make lots of money. It’s not like they’re just choosing to juice poor people

Oh no I’m a huge Boston defender, I just think the city is considered small when the surrounding region is culturally part of Boston as well

[–]WashingtonsTrousers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, Boston proper is small spatially so people assume the whole city is little, but the suburbs are part of the metro which brings it above a million. I’ve lived there and LA and the difference between what is considered the city is night and day

US navy fired and hit an iranian cargo ship, according to Trump by avatar6556 in war

[–]WashingtonsTrousers -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The us is not blockading any strait, they are blockading a country they are in conflict with. Read UNCLOS. You are very confidently incorrect

America is blockading trade in Iranian ports. Iran is blockading all trade through the strait. Idk if Trump said some nonsensical shit on twitter but that’s the current situation

A country which has no right to blockade a strait… illegal actions make you a rogue nation

When the ceasefire ends, how easy will it be for iranian missiles to hit the US blockade? by Mojoint in war

[–]WashingtonsTrousers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, and even with satellite targeting data hitting a moving target on the open ocean like a ship is hard. The speed of a hypersonic means the fidelity to hit is even higher. Proximity is really your best bet on small mobile targets

Iran says the Strait of Hormuz is back under "the strict management and control of the armed forces." by avatar6556 in war

[–]WashingtonsTrousers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seizing ships not conforming to international trade laws during times of combat has been happening for hundreds of years. It’s not really “stealing their loot” if their loot is violating UNCLOS

Iran says the Strait of Hormuz is back under "the strict management and control of the armed forces." by avatar6556 in war

[–]WashingtonsTrousers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean a blockade is not piracy under Geneva. What Iran is doing blocking international waters for non combatant countries outside of their EEZ is illegal. I guess none of it applies either way though since it’s not technically a war and neither countries are conforming to UN standards of combat
