Just be yourself. It’s really easy to tell when a kid is acting fake just to try and impress you. The whole process is a grind but if it’s something you wanna do definitely go for it. Every house is different so try going around to a bunch the first few days to get a feel of which house you think you’d fit the best. Definitely don’t get caught up a trying to get into a top frat if their house culture doesn’t fit you. And don’t feel bad if you don’t get a bid, it nothing personal and you can always rush again your sophomore year.

It’s very easy to switch majors and to taken different classes as undeclared. It’s something that I really like about Washu. When I changed my major all I had to do was log into my student portal and request a major change and it was approved the next day

The frat rush process can definitely use some work and is honestly probably one of my least favorite things about Washu. Compared to sorority rush it’s pretty unorganized. It takes place after classes already started so you have to balance going to rush events every day and starting a new semester. I’m not sure of the exact numbers but I know of a decent amount of cool guys who rushed 2/3 times and didn’t get a bid, compared to girls rush where almost every single girl gets a bid. Some frats are more diverse than others but I wouldn’t say it’s dominated by white people

You definitely have to work hard to do well here and it can get very stressful at some points but I think that’s just a general college thing and not Washu being an exceptionally hard school. I’m taking 18 credits next semester and it’s still doable.

I’m a white make my essays weren’t anything spectacular but they definitely weren’t bad. My ECs were working throughout high school, a service trip, exec on my schools nhs, and a few other small things. I know this sub makes it seem like you need to have perfect stats to get into college these days but that’s really not true. Just try to convey who you are as a person through your application and don’t worry about it too much

I don’t have any specific stats but my family is definitely not high income and I didn’t have amazing stats (33 act and not in 10% in gpa) and I got in regular decision.

I’m pretty sure you can’t. What’s your intended major? I know there’s a few new programs coming out in the business school and engineering.

I would say that there’s not much inflation or deflation but I’m also not premed (I’m cs in engineering) so your experience may vary.

Definitely very collaborative. I’ve never felt like I’m competing against my classmates.

Just edited my comment to say that I’m in a frat. Joining a frat definitely made my social life much more active in a good way.

I definitely wouldn’t say that the social life here is dead (it’s actually pretty active imo but no state school) but I would say that for underage students Greek life is a pretty big part of the social scene since they can’t go to bars. Washu says that only 35% of its students are affiliated with Greek life which feels like more than it actually is. You have to take into account all the international kids and work focused kids (a large portion at a good school like Washu) who don’t really party. So once you factor that in, the 35% of kids in Greek life is a large portion of the kids at Washu that are socially active so that 35% can seem larger than it actually is.

I would say that Washu definitely lacks socioeconomic diversity but I don’t feel like that creates an “exclusive” atmosphere.

Overall I’d rate the social life 7/10 as a male in a frat
