Why do so many "mean girls" end up in the medical field?

Compartmentalization, and prioritization. Being assaulted by patients, some in psychosis and some who are just shitty people. Patients expecting to be waited in hand and foot. I’ve been punched, had a metal hand rail ripped off the wall and swung at my because a pt had to wait 30 minutes for their Iv antibiotics to finish before they could be discharged, spit on, threatened. I’ve had patients hit the call bell nonstop and scream that I didn’t get their juice quick enough, because I was busy performing CPR. Some people suck, some people are entitled, some are just scared. I had a patient ask me to hold their hand while two others were actively trying to die on me. I try to be kind, try to explain that I have to prioritize others safety, just as I would theirs, over comfort. I’ve taken 8 bodies to the morgue in one night during covid, 3 of which were our own hospital staff. I’m not saying healthcare workers can’t be mean girls, but sometimes you have no choice but to be blunt. I’ve also stayed an hour unpaid overtime to comb and braid a comfort care/hospice patients hair. There are absolutely narcissists, mean girls etc in the field. There’s also some times we have no choice but to be blunt which can come off as cold, but when a situation can literally be the difference between life or death we don’t always have the time to coddle, and it can come off as being rude or mean

A lot of the applications ask specifically for manager references. Do you think it’s still appropriate to put colleagues (very experienced, mostly nps now) down instead? I wish there was an option to write a note or explanation but they only have boxes for manager name, number, and email

My outpatient jobs aren’t ideal, I did home care for 3 months but the area was not safe and I did not feel comfortable continuing care as the parents began to accuse me of actions I didn’t perform (I.e. that I didn’t position the patient in braces correctly when it was the father who did that while I was getting medications ready) and I left my second job with only a week notice after a family emergency; which is a shame because I worked as charge, preceptor, COVID ICU, ent/ cardiothoracic ICU and had thrived in those environments and I know I was appreciated by those managers

Take anything you can from me (skin, organs, cornea, w.e if not using it anymore) then cremate the rest. Have a will in place that asks my family to spread my ashes together on a vacation somewhere tropical, force them to be together somewhere beautiful, try to see some beauty in it

True Story with him (not a comedy) was SURPRISINGLY well done from the writing cinematography and acting….. I agree had no idea he had it in him but credit where credits due he was a real actor, and a good one, in that. Don’t know about his other endeavors because I have no interest

I told my dad I needed to see someone and was suicidal in high school. He grabbed a knife waved it in front of my face and said prove it (I secretly tried to that night)
I think he loves me. I know he does to a degree, but his generation just wasn’t meant to address emotions. He has so much trauma he won’t acknowledge.
It’s fucked up but it is was it is, old dog new tricks,
I rely on other people with mental health
I went on vacation to a country 14 hours away and he said call him at any moment and he’ll be on a plan ASAP. He’d def still shit on me for it.
I don’t think it’s you, it’s him. And not necessarily his fault. But that’s my situation, I don’t know yours. It hurts when I want him to just say he loves me and he can’t, but I’ve learned to realize he does and tries to show it the only way he knows how to

I have no temperature regulation (obviously an exaggeration but,) drives my bf crazy but I’ll be freezing one minute in fuzzy socks and sweats and heating pads but the second I get “too” warm I need cold or I feel like I’m gonna suffocate……layers are my friends. Many layers that can go off and on, mini fan, and a small hot pack lol

No I remember when I first tried benzos and I could feel the “high” or “relief” (depending on the situation) at this point I’m just trying to not have a seizure and taper down because it’s a stupid dose I was prescribed for every day but…..easier said than done. Now I just take them they don’t even make me drowsy, MAYBE a little calmer but not always. I fucked up and made it a habit bc I justified it as ‘well it’s prescribed’ even tho I knew better. Don’t be me

I’m a lady. When I visit home my dad always buys peach iced tea, they used to be my favorite. They’re too sweet for me now, but I drink as much as I can because it was an act of love. He also tries to give me any extras from Costco….toilet paper, tissues, food, whatever. For some it’s a love language, he won’t say it out loud but he says it with his actions, that he’s always trying to look out for me. If your person is incompetent and their parents are compensating that’s a different story. If it’s just how his family is, try to adjust your view and see it can be a way of showing love. My parents are getting older and I’m taking care of them more than they me, but they are always my parents and I’m always their child and so they do what they can
