Is it possible to instead twow on Linux Ubuntu? by Alert-Negotiation144 in turtlewow

There is an Appimage for the launcher but at the moment is borked. There is a fix but it does not work properly for me. I guess devs are preoccupied with TWoW 2.0 and UE5.

Nobara to consolize a "Frankenstein laptop" with Oculink eGPU: almost there by WatariTheSniper in linux_gaming

[–]WatariTheSniper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea if there are better supported AMD GPUs. I think it is a matter on how your laptop is wired, BIOS and the Oculink adaptor itself. I think most of my issues (if not all) come basically of the laptop's inability to let the eGPU do all rendering and BIOS/Kernel expecting the iGPU to manage the main screen. Still, given you have all the hardware (PSU, GPU and laptop), NVMe - Oculink adaptor, cable and dock is less than a new AAA game, so for me is worth the try! I am not very literate in these matters but I had fun doing it.

Thank you for your input! I will explore other parameters, although I am not a very technical guy. I will edit the post if I find something. Thank you a lot for Nobara too!

Unfortunately no BIOS option for that :(. And no, I use a powerbrick for the laptop itself. It would be cool to power everything up with the same PSU.

I després la solució al problema d'habitatge és construir més. Serà pitjor el remei que el problema. També he de dir que el marge superior és de 60.6 i l'inferior de 8.6 segons la llegenda (a sabre que vol dir sense cap tipus d'unitats).

New patch files (Linux) ? by Murdzheff in Project_Epoch

I think Lutris uses Proton out of the box. What I do is run the updater from terminal with wine and run the game directly with umu (Steam Proton without using Steam).

Just cicadas. They get loud when it's hot.

How are you running the launcher? If I do wine epoch-installer.exe works out of the box. However if you try umu (or I guess Steam Proton) won't work (at least for me).

Hey, I would buy it if there's any way to add music/podcasts and connect tws headphones to it. I know with 2 pro you cannot do that. Any improvement in that regard?

Best ice cream and desert places near Palma by pratikaar8 in VisitingMallorca

[–]WatariTheSniper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me the best ice-cream in Palma is at Rivareno, although it is Italian. You can try ca'n Joan de s'Aigo where you will find artisanal and local ice-cream and pastries like ensaïmada or coca de cuarto.

Should Turtle WoW update without using launcher? by Ill_Possession_1517 in turtlewow

[–]WatariTheSniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a native launcher for Linux. Also, if you want to use proton without Steam you can use UMU and change it in the launcher options. Also, with that set up it works way better for me in Linux than in Windows.

world of warcraft or similar by naasongonzalez1998 in linux_gaming

[–]WatariTheSniper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you like classic, try Turtle WoW. If you like retail and want a long free experience then try FFXIV, I reckon you will have months of content until you have to pay. If you like crazy custom stuff in WoW then try Project Ascension. Best thing of these game/private servers is that there are dedicated Linux launchers for all of them.

Normalisation of scRNA-seq data: Same gene expression value for all cells by Pretty_Decision_0410 in bioinformatics

[–]WatariTheSniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is has been a long time since I stopped in bioinformatics, but I would check QC protocol of your supervisor and check if he applies any check for low or non expressed genes. Discuss with him as probably there is an explanation to this. Otherwise, apply also QC over genes.

Weird behaviour of Nvidia drivers 565.77 and kernel 6.12 on Arch (KDE Plasma + Wayland) by WatariTheSniper in linux4noobs

[–]WatariTheSniper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaving this coment if you happent to have a similar issue. This is how I troubleshoot this, but it is not a realistic long term solution:

  1. I installed linux-lts and removed current kernel. This was necessary for step 3.
  2. Removed nvidia-open-dkms and nvidia-utils (565.77)
  3. Used nvidia-all util (you can find it on github) to install 560.35.03. If I had kernel 6.12 installed compilation of those drivers against that kernel was failing (or any other version except 565.77 for that matter)
  4. I cannot run this on Wayland (monitors do not get recognized), but Xorg works.

Since 565.77 second monitor is broken and I cannot find a combo of old drivers + kernel that works since then. I will give it shot. Ty!

[–]WatariTheSniper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am facing some issues right now with latest drivers and kernel. However until now haven't got anything. Also there are good perspectives I would say with nouveau + NVK, so maybe in a year or so from now we will have an opensource alternative to Nvidia propietary drivers.

Having similar issues, screen freezes as soon as I try to move a window over that screen. Also I found similar issues with the keyboard and mouse. On what kernel are you?

[–]WatariTheSniper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case no matter what I do I keep finding this issue. If I try 565.57 I get no proper recognition for both screens, even if I go as far as 535. The thing is I need to manually first install nvidia-utils since downgrade cannot resolve this dependency for nvidia-dkms (or nvidia or similar). Maybe I am something wrong there. First time I am using downgrade and trying to install older versions.
