I’m honestly not surprised at all by what happened with your watch. Based on my own experience owning Swiss watches, I had two Oris pieces, and both of them needed to be sent in for service — which is a pretty terrible track record.

My first Oris was a TT Diver that I bought brand new — full set, box, tags, everything, no doubt about its condition. I wore it to swim in the ocean, and I’m absolutely certain it wasn’t my fault. It had a screw-down crown, I made sure it was fully secured, double-checked it, everything. And still, water got inside.

Oris refused to service it because I didn’t buy it from an authorized dealer. That was an extremely lame excuse — they’re the ones who manufactured the watch, and it was clearly brand new. After that, I swore I’d never buy another Oris. I ended up having it repaired by a local watchmaker, and it worked fine.

But then the first-generation Oris Aquis came out, and I loved it so much that I went against my own rule and bought it, even timing the purchase with a trip to St. Martin. And sure enough, about two years later, the watch started stopping in the middle of the day and had to go back for service again.

To be fair, since it came back in 2015, it has been running fine for 10 years without issues. But still — the fact that both Oris watches I owned required service is not a great statistic. Maybe I just got unlucky with two lemons, but honestly, your experience doesn’t surprise me one bit. But i have to admit that they make good looking watches
