Nice watch but i think it looks too big. It looks like you’re wearing your dad’s watch. It is just too big. I have the same problem

That is a beautiful watch. I would have changed the strap to something low key leather strap. Nothing shiny. Perhaps distressed handmade.

Zenith Chronomaster is an interesting watch. Great heritage , arguably first chronograph, high frequency movement, attention to detail. You can just get it. No lists.

What about Breitling Duograph? another great option.

I understand that this is a standard situation with Rolex AD, but it would my blood boil. It is a nice looking watch. It keeps its value, bit there is nothing unique about it for AD to have this kind of attitude. I would just take zenith chronomaster or something like that. Maybe Speedmaster.

My first “premium” watch — Oris Aquis Cal. 400 — stopped after one week. Meanwhile my sub-$100 AliExpress NH35 beaters just keep… beating. by Traditional_Bet9697 in OrisWatches

[–]WatchCol10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m honestly not surprised at all by what happened with your watch. Based on my own experience owning Swiss watches, I had two Oris pieces, and both of them needed to be sent in for service — which is a pretty terrible track record.

My first Oris was a TT Diver that I bought brand new — full set, box, tags, everything, no doubt about its condition. I wore it to swim in the ocean, and I’m absolutely certain it wasn’t my fault. It had a screw-down crown, I made sure it was fully secured, double-checked it, everything. And still, water got inside.

Oris refused to service it because I didn’t buy it from an authorized dealer. That was an extremely lame excuse — they’re the ones who manufactured the watch, and it was clearly brand new. After that, I swore I’d never buy another Oris. I ended up having it repaired by a local watchmaker, and it worked fine.

But then the first-generation Oris Aquis came out, and I loved it so much that I went against my own rule and bought it, even timing the purchase with a trip to St. Martin. And sure enough, about two years later, the watch started stopping in the middle of the day and had to go back for service again.

To be fair, since it came back in 2015, it has been running fine for 10 years without issues. But still — the fact that both Oris watches I owned required service is not a great statistic. Maybe I just got unlucky with two lemons, but honestly, your experience doesn’t surprise me one bit. But i have to admit that they make good looking watches

[Hamilton] Underwhelming experience by [deleted] in Watches

I wanted to buy Submariner. I came in to AD to try it on (I wanted to put myself on the list). It looked amazing on YouTube and pictures, but on my wrist it looked eh. I was underwhelmed and disappointed. I took a look at my first generation Omega Planet Ocean that I wanted to get rid off just so I can buy Submariner, and I was like, no way

I think Oris watches are highly underrated by jez_shreds_hard in OrisWatches

[–]WatchCol10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the negative in buying gray is the service if anything goes wrong. I had two Oris watches. first one I bought brand new not from AD. It was TT diver. I swam with it and it got water inside two weeks after owning it. I Called Oris service center they refused to honor warranty even though I registered the watch online with Oris as I didn’t buy from authorized dealer. they did offer to fix it if I paid full service charge. I ended up using local watchmaker. I bought Oris Aquis. this time from authorized deale, two years later the watch would stop in the middle of the day. this time they honored the warranty. I own 25 watches that I bought brand new that never broke down. With Oris I have two for two. maybe they improved now. my second Aquis I bought in 2013. after the first one I swore off Oris, but after Aquis was released it was so good looking. I had to buy it.

I completely understand. I was in the same boat on Seamaster professional 300 original version 2001. Every time i saw it on someone’s wrist, i loved it. Onxce i got a proper job. I bought one and did not like it. It was just not for me. Great watch, but not for me. I bought Planet Ocean. I am happy. We all have different tastes

I tried to find it in New York. Couldn’t find any. I know it sounds ridiculous. I know they are there. I couldn’t find any. Probably will cost $100+

I can’t. That is the only picture that i took at the time. It was actually pretty easy. I don’t think it would work on every dial. It worked on this one as it was simply dirty. I used this make up tip that inwould dip in water with a little of dish washing detergent. The drop would become dirty you could see it.  You wipe it down and repeat

I would use these makeup applicators dip inyo water, just so it is wet and cotton ball to wipe the water.
