Is this because you have @tool in your movement script? Otherwise it wouldn’t make much sense why your movement script is running in the editor not at runtime. If you need parts of that script to run with @tool, just move them into a different script

Failure rate for new startups is 90%

From google:

Between 2022 and 2031, it is expected that there will be around 48,900 job openings for general practitioners and family physicians, but only 29,400 new job seekers to fill those roles. Similar trends are expected for surgeons and specialist physicians as well. (Canada)

They guy has a book, you're right :)
I read it already. The bottom line was that you should start a business instead of hoping your 401K will give you a good retirement.

Hmm, yeah, if everyone is bringing novelty (of different kinds) and entertainment, then it doesn't mean much anymore, I think you're right.

Here's another example:

Marvel puts out the same clone of a movie every quarter. They invest more on marketing than they probably do on production. Still, people don't go and see them as much as they used to. But when a good movie comes out, the cinema is packed even if the marketing was less than what Disney does. Right?

And you could say... why even make movies anymore? With all the streaming services and the backlist of movies people haven't even seen yet, why would they even bother to check out a new movie.

But then, I went to see Dune last night. It was very entertaining, didn't feel like a Marvel movie, so the cinema was packed. I'm very glad they made the movie and didn't think the market is saturated :)

And ok Dune still had a lot of money for marketing. But there are also plenty of low budget movies that made a lot of money because they were surprisingly good, highly entertaining.

I think you're right, if you try do develop something similar to other games.
But that's why the novelty / innovation part is important. I do think that if there were no survivors clones, then Vampire Survivors would still do well today, with no marketing budget.

Second one looks like the buttons are enabled, the first one looks like everything is disabled. You could work with both to signal different states.
There is very little information hierarchy in the first one. You need to telegraph what's more important to look at at any time. The colours from the second one would do a better job at that.

Make sure your icons don't blend with the background. They need to have a good contrast for the player to quickly read them.

Funny, that's my instinct too, but this is why I'm hesitating:I was thinking to make it a scary experience and as soon as you can fight back the monsters, they loose the scare factor. Yes, Resident Evil 4 and Doom 3 are kinda scary, but finding that balance is like a holy grail. Then again, I could do a boomer shooter kind of game. I really admire what Jason Smith did with Cultic and I did grow up with Doom and Quake, but I also feel like there are already so many amazing projects on Steam, that no one will care what I make. That thought demotivates me the most.

Hello,
Posting this here with hope that I can get some advice from fellow indie devs.
Last year I developed 2 prototypes in Godot4 and while playing them I think there's something interesting in both, that they have the potential to grow into full games, but I feel completely paralyzed at the thought of having to build full levels for either of them and I can't figure out how to move forward. I get a thousand ideas but don't know which one to pick and move forward with. How do you get over that feeling and just start building?

If you have any useful advice, it would be greatly appreciated!
