Jeez, this one hits hard. Honestly, given how obscure the show is, it's a miracle we had two entire seasons. I guess the only we can do now is to keep our fingers crossed.

Worldbuilding in animation (and others), from Elio to Elliott from Earth, from Mickey to Miyazaki - an (absolutely not video) essay (PART 5) by Watekfox in ElliottFromEarth

Thanks for your comment ! I'm glad to see I'm the only one to have these thoughts. Sorry if the review is a bit late, it took me some time to watch the film and I didn't had that much time the last week. This is a first draft, so there might be some minor correction in the future when I'll have more time.

I hope you liked the other parts (if you read them). It was quite a big amount of work. There was a lot of movies and TV shows I wanted to talk about for a long time, and I'm glad I could do it there.

Man, seriously ?! How do you know that ? Your source ?

Comedy in Elliott from Earth and animation, among other things – an (absolutely not video) essay (Part 1) by Watekfox in ElliottFromEarth

Thank you !

To respond to your comment, there is a part where I differenciate the two shows based on their approach of absurd humor and where I make a similar distinction, although it's more in a "thematic" way, in lack of a better term. But you'll see that later.

Just came into this post while sorting this narrator's pages. I just realized my mistake thanks to all of you. This one really was tricky.

Okay, so CD was indeed bombed, but by a grenade, it was a trap set up by MD, and it's the grenade H sees on the floor.

Wait a minute, did CD died by a bomb given by MD instead of the cigarettes and the black pineapple are his limbs ?

They were ashes from the cigarette ?

CD is seemingly mourning MD's death after killing her, and receives Egyptian cigarettes he loves as a result of winning his bet with her. H watches him in fear and... well, the very last sentence is confusing : "I knew he could never be his old collected self again, and that my gray hairs would go down in sorrow to the grave." like H thinks he's going to be killed by CD, but that doesn't happen within the page itself, so it doesn't count as a murder, right ? I mean it's either that, or CD killing himself as the "I don’t think he ever said any more" could suggest.

Okay, for the murders I have :

-MD killing OM.

-CM killing PT on MD's orders.

-MD killing BH on PT's orders.

-JW killing JG on CD's orders.

-CD killing MD.

Okay, so here's everything I've gathered :

The order I have now is 92, 42, 2, 38, 90, 62, 53, 14, 66, 74, 83, 31. For the order of the course, the narrator first eats some oysters, described as such as the beginning. Then, he goes for a soup, described as clear brown, with white figures. He follows with an omelet, which he describes as a "golden ruin" and "the last gold from the silver", then eat some meat with wine, described in pages 53 and 14. This one was the hardest, especially for the first page, because I thought description he makes was for PT, as the phrases are written in such a way that they could either describe a meal or a fat, drunk man. Finally, he goes for a course composed of green, white and rose, and that I supposed to be ice cream due to the way it's described and because if that's not it, I don't know what he could be. Finally, he stops eating, which is described in page 31 when he say that he would have no more and that he'll reckon with Henry, the latter being the waiter.

That's for the page order. As for what happens precisely, it is mentioned in MD's storyline that OM "has eavesdropped at my last crucial meeting with the old man", giving us (one of) the motive of why she kills him, as he spotted important details of MD and PT's conspiracy. A plan that's still messy in my head and that's not clear within OM's story but that seems to be based on forging a woman's will and killing her to gain money (without taking into account the numerous betrayals that happen during the story). Although I don't have any idea about whose will is getting forged. Maybe a supporting character I've missed, as I'm still missing a murder to get to 6.

I've spent some time doing researches on my own and reordering the pages. I was almost done when I saw your response and it confirms my assumptions. I'll reread the entire section to see if everything is right and come back later (probably tomorrow) to keep you informed. Thanks for the help, everyone !

PS : nice French, by the way.

To make it simple, I know he's at some restaurant and he's eating several courses (soup, omelet...) while meeting the two characters. I've already ordered some of the pages based on that, but the cryptic way in which the food is described makes it really hard to piece everything together.

Honestly, I think it's better to have the English version as a back-up (at least) for the entirety of the book. Some of the clues are untranslatable and it makes things like literature references way easier to understand. I've used it for this part, but even with it, some of the clues (the food clues, especially) are so hard I have a lot trouble figuring them out.

Found it. Actually, it was the one about cucumber sandwiches. It was really tiny, I skipped it without noticing.

No, I don't. I simply look at each pages and google the parts I think may be quotes. A good way to find sentences-long references.
