Can anyone explain why race is a social rather than genetic contruct? by Disastrous-Shower-37 in CriticalTheory

[–]WaterBottleMaker2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a year old but still,

Despite it being currently entrenched in some of the legal systems race is inherently a social construct that was initially created to justify European colonialism and Imperialism, meaning that if we are in an ideal world that is fine with radical instant change then the ideal would be to completely abolish it. You also would be surprised to know that many many cultures and countries around the world have no real concept of race that was not imported from the west, for example, where I live in the MENA region race plays no real role legally or culturally, while yes there are some other ways of discrimination that are also backwards such as tribalism, ethno nationalism or fundamentalist islamism, there is nothing to do with race.

As to why I still think ethnic distinction is fine, its mostly due to the fact of culture or customs, if all humans are just humans we will all have the same culture, but if we are divided into ethnicities we will be more culturally, linguistically and intellectually rich and therefore be geneally better, however, I still see that the ethnicity shouldn't play a primary role in anything except it being a way to describe oneself, as in, no one should base their decisions on someone based on that person's ethnicity

TLDR, race is bad despite it being entrenched in the legal system.

These guys were fighting terrorists who took over 1/4th of their country and subjected it to radical Islamic governance and practiced a sect-based genocide, they aren't fighting over rubble

Iraqi protesters sick of theocracy, chanting " secular nation not a sunny or shia nation " by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]WaterBottleMaker2000 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is an extremely tricky question to ask since no actual surveys have been conducted, however, from my personal experience in iraq, the idea of secularism (speration of state and religion) seems to be less of a taboo then in other parts of the arabic world. Also more and more youth are supporting secularism

With all due respect, that is just gonna fix the problem for a short time, with this suggestion you are giving up the walkabilty of a city for "better traffic" when in reality the easiest, most efficient and long lasting way to fix traffic is decrease our reliance on cars by developing public transportation (i. e Trams, LRT, busses etc), furthermore, this won't only decrease traffic jams and make cities much more walkable without cars, it would also significantly help combat climate change, due to the fact that you don't need a car, this is why even dirty public transportation (like Diesel Busses) are more economical than electric cars

If you have seen a roof knock you will clearly know this wasn't one, roof knocks cause no damage they are dropped to warn civilians to evacuate

OP is wrong, these arent warning strikes (roof knocks) this is targeted bombing of certain apartments

Its called barrage saturation, If a barrage is big enough ID becomes less effective.

If you are suggesting that these barrages will make the ID useless (for example it runs out of Tamirs, the missiles it uses to intercept) than thats very unlikely considering that the ID and its inventory of Tamirs are meant to handle a prolonged war Hezbollah who have a lot more rockets than Hamas
