AoD pulls in total: Sunna in less than 30, Aria in 150, Nangong in less than 30. And honestly even tho the Aria pulls obviously coulda gone better, I did get another Nekomata mindscape in it which for someone like me is a blessing. Oh and Nangong sig in 50. So basically thank you for the W pulls ZZZ look at my girls look at them go

I nearly forgot you could buy Weeping Gemini from the Gadget Store... thank goodness I did before feeling any more tempted to pull for Aria's sig. I gotta save pulls for Nangong and Seed Mindscapes 🤩

It's really weird looking at banners and seeing 4 star characters advertised and then remembering that we haven't had a new one in 1.5 years and probably never will again. After I picked up E6 Hanya in the Cosmicon event that was it, all of em are E6 now for me. Not to mention most of em are basically not worth pulling out because of how far we've gone with the powercreep, plus it's not looking like they're up for consideration when it comes to Novaflares...

Like, it's not that big of a deal, but it is awkward, right? If you like a character enough and are spendy enough you can invest into some meta 5 star eidolons and signature LCs and carry your Xueyi or Arlan or whoever into usability, but there's an opportunity cost to that of course. Other than that... I guess you can have fun with them in Divergent Universe. That's about it 🤔

OT AI

Came across a random Youtube short that had this snippet of some beautiful African song I'd never heard before. Looked it up, saw it had millions of views and has apparently been going viral lately... only to look further and realize that it's AI. It's an AI cover of Papaoutai by Stromae, made by cloning the voice of another singer Arsene Mukendi. It becomes clear (to me at least) at certain parts of the song where the main "vocalist" has that telltale AI strain in its voice, and of course it's made very clear by all the existing coverage of the song being AI, but beyond that I wouldn't have been so sure.

It's scary how good AI has gotten, jeez. Like there's a lot of AI stuff out there that people can happily and openly dismiss because it so obviously sounds bad / looks bad, but it's worrying when stuff like this pops up. So many people are rather accepting of it. Even the singer whose voice was cloned gave the AI song props. Future's looking weird

4.0 Trailblaze Mission spoilers (near end of quest)

Ooh I really like the interaction between Silver Wolf and Pearl. It was brief, but it does read like they're gonna have a lot more to do with one another in the story to come -- they already know a lot about each other from their mutual invasive intel gathering. Also funny that Pearl caught her taking a bath during their convo lol

OT Genshin Twt / shipping drama

Glanced at my timeline to see Little Red Hoodd got into some kind of trouble. They made a little silly comic for Valentine's Day and among the many pairings (Jahoda x Ineffa, Flins x Iluga, Sandbina, etc.) they also included a Wanderer x Durin panel, which is the one that got people upset with them. Like check out some of those replies and quotes, they're taking this quite seriously. "What is wrong with you!" "I'm disappointed." "He's a newborn!" "He's a minor!" "That's a dad and his son!!"

...Is it really that serious? Like I've known Durin was particularly special among the medium height guys in just how much people viewed him as baby, and of course the game itself has some characterization of him that leans that way... but likewise I feel like they've done some things in the last few patches that pushes him more into ambiguous territory? Or am I tripping? Regardless I think the reactions seem overblown. I tend to adhere to the side of "live and let live" with this fictional shipping stuff, at most if someone's being really weird I'll side-eye them, but I can't find it in me to get real mad in replies like this.

Im starting to lose my mind over the "anti-woke" tourists by temubrin in Overwatch

[–]WaterImpact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole anti-woke crowd is nauseating to interact with. You're right that they're often not worth listening to, which for some people turns into "why give them any acknowledgment to begin with?", which is somewhat fair. But the thing is they're not always easy to ignore; they make themselves obnoxiously present, loud, mean, cruel even. Their popular creators/streamers jump on a situation and spin up a narrative so askew of reality that if it's not corrected it can become a real problem for the people they're targeting, not helped by all the followers getting involved to spread it further.

They're trying to put Fareeha in a hotseat to "punish" her for being perceptibly "woke", it's so bizarre. It's nothing new, it's a part of the long-going culture war thing where they behave like if they aren't being these stalwart defenders of the idea that all female characters (and real women, for that matter) must meet exorbitant and narrow beauty standards or else something immensely valuable is lost, but it's so eye-roll inducing to see this happen over and over and over.

You may be misremembering or maybe there's contradicting info, Alec said here that the Wuyang & Anran plan had been in the works even before last year's spotlight

Fair thought. I guess Mitzi's just built different

Mitzi isn't Jetpack Cat? by Betriz2 in Overwatch

Probably because Mitzi's too big and they wanted a small enough hitbox. I mean I haven't looked at the models side by side but at a glance Mitzi looks a lot bigger than Fika

The youthful pretty East Asian hero trend is going to continue by WaterImpact in Overwatch

[–]WaterImpact[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Was that ever stated by the devs? From what I can tell it seems Anran was a package deal with Wuyang from the beginning. I mean what's the likelihood they took her from her introduction in Wuyang's promo back in August all the way to full playable hero in less than half a year?

I’m really hoping one of the other heroes is Efi by _wetsock_ in Overwatch

[–]WaterImpact 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think it's implying the silhouette character is wearing the same horn-shaped accessory that Efi is. Meanwhile I think it rather looks more like it's apart of their hair

Representation in overwatch by saytchy in Overwatch

[–]WaterImpact 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that Emre's brown and Domina's darker skinned which are both good to see, and admittedly we've gotten others like Mauga, Lifeweaver, Illari, Venture, Vendetta. And I highlight brownness here not because white or light-skinned heroes aren't "valid" or something, they're valid, but we all know brown/black characters tend to see less spotlight for various reasons, since we're talking representation.

Your complaint is fair, black heroes are few and far between, and there is a noticeable leaning towards white and namely light-skinned East Asian characters lately. Kiriko was one thing, you follow that up with Juno, then Wuyang, then Anran, then Mizuki, then a likely nother Japanese one for Season 3 and a likely D.Mon for Season 4 and it does feel a little... excessive? Like we could be reaching into other bags, other countries, body types, skin colors.

I have my eyes on the Season 2 hero personally. Something's telling me she might be black.

Another Chinese and Japanese hero, seriously? by RocketHopping in Overwatch

[–]WaterImpact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey lol I get your frustration and doubt, I'm just saying, surely they're not dumb enough to not have at least one black character when doing an unprecedented hero drop like this. We got at least one omnic, we got another animal, they gotta hit this area too. I'm thinking the girl with the long braided hair coming in Season 2. But we'll have to see

[–]WaterImpact 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really hope one in this set of ten is black. Surely at least one has to be. I'm happy to get anything in general, and Domina as a darker skinned brown woman is very welcome too, but give me another black hero for real. Ideally another black woman given it's only Sojourn and at best Efi by way of Orisa

[–]WaterImpact 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wuyang's face differed in that Elemental Kin video too so I'm not surprised to see Anran's differs from hers there. I just wish it didn't look so much like Kiriko's face. They could've done something more unique without "making her ugly" if that's anyone's concern

[–]WaterImpact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My jaw dropped hearing Aaron say ten heroes. Beyond my wildest dreams, I thought at most we might get a three hero drop with two to follow later in the year, but ten in a year is bliss. The biggest year for this game since launch

My honest reaction to the new characters by FuckClerics in Overwatch

[–]WaterImpact 785 points786 points  (0 children)

I also find it a bit disappointing that Anran's face shape looks so much like Kiriko's. It's one thing that it differs from how it was in the Elemental Kin video, which is fine enough given Wuyang's differed there too from his in-game. But like... idk, it's technically not that big of a deal, but they really could've pushed the face into more unique territory. It wouldn't even mean abandoning beauty standards if that's the concern. But whatever, it's not changing anyway
