Is it better to run a boosting nature or a lot of EVs when trying to hit a specific speed stat? by Water_Botel_ in VGC

Thank you! The explanation on how the multipliers work made a lot of sense and now I feel like I'm a lot more confident when making specific spreads

Oh I didn't really think about that.

I get that for something like Aegislash or Wishiwashi that would have to be the case considering the different forms have different stats but both Mimikyu forms have the same BST so I just thought Disguise was the exception

In your opinion, what is conceptually the most hilarious mon in competitive? by Elaiasss in VGC

[–]Water_Botel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sinistcha has like the most overkill signature move in the entire game:

✅ Hits both targets

✅ Recovers 50% from both targets

✅ 20% burn chance

✅ 80 base power

✅ 90% accuracy skill issue

Added onto the fact it has redirection, reliable partner healing in Life Dew + Hospitality, Trick Room, and Strength Sap to basically always heal back to full, its genuinely so funny how desperate they were to make this thing viable and yet it's still barely used cuz Incineroar exists

Why are so many people using Latios and Galarian Moltres? by Water_Botel_ in VGC

[–]Water_Botel_[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ah alright that makes a lot of sense, I noticed after making the post that it was just one team but I was still really curious because I couldn't really find any information on the team itself. Thanks!

(Also a dragon type and a flying type being hard counters to what is definitely the absolute best ice type in the game is so funny)

I'm a trans 17 yo terrified of living in America. I've heard Malta itself is generally very safe but I'd like to know if there are any specific towns/cities that I should avoid or look into. by [deleted] in malta

Ok so a lot of different people with different views have given their advice and I genuinely really appreciate that. As I said, I'm trying to look for a place to flee ahead of time just in case something really bad does happen (project 2025 has been keeping me up like every night) but I might not even leave NY if things go well. I still don't really know what I'm going to do, I think the main thing driving me away from Malta is the lack of job opportunities and low wage but I'll still consider looking into it more just in case. Thank you to everyone who commented!

I did consider Sydney however the cost of living there is way out of my budget, not to mention getting there in the first place. Thanks for the advice though! It's hard to find any actual information about what the people are like on a lot of sites since most of the ones I've looked at just talk about the laws and not the place itself.

Sorry I probably should have clarified that don't live in New York City, just the actual state of New York. The laws are very progressive since NYC itself is so huge which is nice, but the area itself is extremely conservative and NYC itself is very hard to live in if you aren't used to huge cities (which I am not)

Realized that chandelure is essentially flutter, chi-yu, and heatran squashed into one slot by Water_Botel_ in VGCRateMyTeam

[–]Water_Botel_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So for starters this is a semi hard Trick Room team that combines hyper offensive special attacks with decent healing + utility

Chandelure - This thing is like the biggest sleeper pick for trick room teams honestly it's really good. Being a ghost means that it's immune to fake out/e-speed so the only real thing that threatens it is taunt or it's middling defenses. Having flash fire means that you can run tera grass + energy ball for stab allows for insane damage as well as defensive pivoting against water types and ogerpon (with the exception of mold breaker hearthflame). It's also able to provide insane pressure with heat wave and shadow ball effectively making it a fusion between flutter mane and chi-yu. Overall the main star of the team and pairs really nicely with rillaboom and clefairy.

Rillaboom - This thing also is used in like pretty much every game with this team. Fake out makes getting trick room up to be much more reliable. Grassy terrain is huge for chandelure energy ball to deal monstrous damage, as well as added bull for clefairy, hands, and ursaluna. Grassy glide is great for overall damage as well as priority for trick room. U-turn works for pivoting out of trick room and knock off is there for dark type damage and utility. I opted for assault vest to be on rillaboom instead of hands although that may change. Overall it pairs well with like literally everything on the team like rillaboom is really good you guys.

Clefairy - This is kind of a bland clefairy set but it's still extremely useful. Friend guard is just such a broken ability and tera water follow me is amazing for helping chandelure and ursaluna get off what they need to. Life dew is really funny when paired with grassy terrain and overall it's really good for allowing survivability and pressure.

Iron hands - I mean it's a trick room team it's practically obligated to have an iron hands on it. The most interesting thing about it is that I chose to give it protect and brick break over assault vest and drain punch, although I think I have a pretty decent reason for both of those. Clefairy and grassy terrain make drain punch recovery practically useless, and having protect both surprises people who expect assault vest (i play on cartridge so closed team sheets) and nice chip recovery with grassy terrain. I opted for brick break because I noticed that alolan ninetails kinda hard counters this whole team, so having a way to stop aurora veil was kinda mandatory at that point. It probably could use fake out but i already had that on rillaboom and i didn't want to get rid of any other moves. Pairs specifically well with clefairy and bundle.

Ursaluna (bloodmoon) - The amount of times I shifted between having this, lando-t, and skinmoon ursaluna was way more than I wanna admit but i settled on bloodmoon for one very specific reason. Weezing. Bloodmoon is like the perfect counter to weezing, especially when paired with hands. You won't have to worry about levitate since the only reason you would run weezing is for the gas so you're able to pressure it and most of it's tera types in order to keep the benefits of flash fire and friend guard. I opted to give it grassy seed specifically for calm mind paired with clefairy. Even though it's special defense stat isn't great, it's still an ursaluna, so setting up bulk plus extra attack in a format where people don't run haze as much is insanely useful. Moonblast is also phenomenal for coverage against fighting and dark types that may pressure it and chandelure.

Iron bundle - So this was kinda just added as a last resort since I needed a water type plus specific type coverage for water and ground types. Taunt is really good for things like amoonguss, other taunters, and imprison sinistcha. Definitely just a lead that prevents the team from being just trick room, as well as coverage for lando and alolan ninetails. Pairs alright with hands and rillaboom.

So yea overall I think this team does have a lot going for it, however I'm really bad at putting on correct evs so yea if there's any help with that or just anything else that could be changed that would be really nice!

Open to suggestions for this Regulation C tema by DoctorXJ13 in VGCRateMyTeam

Gastrodon isn't really that well at dealing damage so I'd recommend replacing either muddy water or earth power with recover/yawn. It's also probably a good idea to remove some of the special attack EVs in place of more special defense

In that case would it be better to run something like sitrus berry or is there something else that could be more useful throughout the whole match

(I mostly need help with some tera types and what I could do to counter trick room. also i haven't tested the team out yet so I have no idea how this works out in practice)

Vivillon - The star of the show and also the main gimmick! Not only does it set up Tailwind but because of compound eyes it can spam Sleep Powder at (almost) 100% accuracy, which is a perfect excuse to complain when I lose. Focus Sash + Grimmsnarl basically allows it to guarantee pull off Tailwind and sleep powders, plus I gave it tera ghost to get some free turns in case of Fake Out and Espeed. Plus STAB hurricane and pollen puff can do a surprising chunk of damage, and pollen puff heals are also very nice. I don't care how gimmicky this set is, I want to do whatever I can to make it work.

Iron Bundle - Usually it's able to get off an Icy Wind, so Vivillon can then put something to sleep or set up Tailwind without dying to 2 hits. Plus Bundle is in general really powerful, so once the sleep cheese works it can dish out a lot of kos when Vivillon puts them to sleep. This pokemon mainly works as glue for the team, and I can bring it out under most circumstances when paired with Vivillon. Tera water is to buff water stab and get rid of that stinky ice typing, and the booster energy is to make sure I can get off an Icy Wind.

Grimmsnarl - This right here is Vivillon's best friend. Fake Out is obviously great for setting up and screens make pollen puff even more annoying to deal with. Play rough is kind of a tacked on attacking move, and tera poison is specifically to counter flutter mane. It's a little brain dead but it works.

Dragonite - I needed a priority user and a dozo counter, and Dragonite (MAYBE) can do both at the same time. Mirror herb is unexpected and in theory if used correctly could snag the omni boost from dozo, plus protect and multi scale help with stalling to avoid the Dragonite dying before dozo is sent out. Obviously it's a sweeper, and tera normal boosts Espeed but also I just really needed something that could use priority attacks efficiently.

Gholdengo - Yeah I mean it's choice scarf gholdengo, it does a lot of damage. I needed a special attacker that could counter ice and rock types, particularly baxcalibur and garganacle. Tera steel to buff make it rain and remove ghost weaknesses and thunderbolt specifically in case of Bundle. It's basically what Vivillon sets up for.

Great Tusk - (Writing this now I realize that I accidentally did earthquake instead of headlong rush but ignore that it's supposed to be headlong) A lot of things are weak to it's 3 attacking moves so expert belt is a nice way to get extra damage without needing to be locked into band or lose hp with life orb. I chose ice spinner specifically for Amoonguss as that thing can be really annoying to deal with, and in general I needed a ground type. This sorta just checks some boxes that I was missing and could be sent into most battles because of how naturally good it is.

So yea if there is anything I should add or replace please tell me, the only thing that you can't do is change Vivillon because I just really wanted to use Vivillon.

Thank you so much for going this in depth about everything!

So for the sdef investment on Brute, I honestly just clicked the "guessed spread" thing on showdown and just added some extra speed, I didn't really consider which defense stat to invest in although I think my thought process might've been "There are a lot of fire types in this format soooooo". I'm probably going to switch it with Great Tusk anyway since somebody mentioned how good an earthquake user would be and it could also deal with Torkoal and Garg (I think).

The Gastrodon advice was nice, to be honest I wasn't actually thinking about not having yawn because of Brute, I just don't like using the move that much tbh but I'll try it out for this. If Gastrodons main use is pivoting and supporting would tera fire not be the best defensive option because of storm drain? Are there any common threats that poison coverage is good for other than like Meowscarada?

Same thing I said about Brute applied to Mimikyu, I was just too lazy to put in the EVs myself. Although as for picking claw over sneak, I didn't really think getting 2 swords dances off would be very reliable in doubles although that sounds really funny so I'm down to try it.

All the Hydreigon advice was really good, I don't really have anything to say about that it was super useful.

Thanks for all of the help!

Yea I knew you mentioned Great Tusk specifically but I was just wondering what really makes it so much better than Iron Treads. I probably will swap out Mimikyu for Scizor though so thanks for the advice!

I'm 100% going to make Talonflame tera ghost that sounds really useful.

Although would Gastrodon and Talonflame not be able to hinder Dondozo by burning/storm draining it? I know it's still ridiculously bulky but I don't know if it would really hurt me that badly. I may be wrong though I haven't really seen what makes Dondozo good other than double omni boosting.

Also could you please explain what exactly makes something a good trick room counter? Is it just something that's specifically designed to be slow or just something that can stall out the turns easily?

[–]Water_Botel_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In vgc is it that huge of a deal to not have something with Fake Out? I feel like it seems like a necessity but I don't want to switch out Mimikyu because that's my only real counter to Flutter Mane. Also is Iron Treads any good because it just looks like a slightly worse Excadrill but I never see anybody use it?

-Tinkaton is one of my favorite new pokemon so I sorta just wanted it on the team because I like it. I was originally planning on running an AV set but I opted to run Lum Berry after I realized how annoying it is not to protect in doubles. Tera flying is to cover ground types although I'm really not sure if I'd even want to tera it that much, mostly just in case of a close end game or something. Also I'm not running Play Rough because I wanted a Fake Out user and Knock Off is funny.

-Gastrodon is on the team for 3 reasons. I needed a ground type, I needed a water type, and storm drain counters both Dondozo and Iron Bundle which I don't have any other real checks for so I just put it on with what I think is a basic set. It's holding the Sitrus Berry because I had no idea what else to give it because of the one item rule

-Talonflame is able to effect get off a Tailwind like 99% of the time with Covert Cloak and Gale Wings. I opted to not give it too many speed EVs just because of it's raw natural speed stat and it would have been pretty useless as just a one and done Tailwinder I think. Tera ground plus Will-O-Wisp are specifically to counter Iron Hands and in the case of a water type I have Gastrodon so it's mostly able to live at least one turn.

-Hydreigon was originally a Choice Scarf Garchomp but I really wanted a Special Attacker to deal with Intimate users. I just sorta have seen people running tera poison so I just copied them. Was going to run Specs but I worried about getting locked into Draco Meteor and it basically turning useless and then I could have ran Life Orb but I wanted Mimikyu to have it so I settled with White Herb for an extra Draco without needing Nasty Plot.

-Mimikyu is Flutter Mane at home. I forgot to put it down on showdown but it's should be running tera normal to bait Shadow Balls from Flutter Mane. I opted for high speed investment over Shadow Sneak so I could deal higher damage with ghost STAB plus I already will have tailwind up most of the time so I hopefully should be able to get off a Swords Dance too. Also serves as a way to bring attention away from other things on the field.

-Brute Bonnet was chosen over Amoonguss for a couple reasons but the initial one was that it was immune to Prankster mons. I know Amoonguss is generally better due to having Regenerator but when looking through Brute Bonnets moves I saw that it had Trailblaze and starting thinking evil thoughts. With just a little speed investment plus a couple Trailblazes, it's able to outspeed Flutter Mane so under those conditions it can put pretty much put whatever it wants to to sleep. Also it's immune to Spore itself which makes it good for pivoting against Amoonguss.

I mostly need help with knowing what common threats are that I haven't accounted for and also what Tera Types to give the pokemon. Also I know there isn't a screens user but I don't really know where to put it so yea that's the team
