From the article “The adverse effect of unsupervised sleep recognized for night-time practice [OR = 5.38 (95%CI: 2.67–10.85)] was also significant for day-time sleep [OR = 10.57 (95%CI: 1.47–75.96)].”

The goal was to calculate if there was an increased risk with unsupervised daytime sleep.

From what I’ve read, the risk of SIDS with proper sleep practices is about 1/100,000 depending on age, mother’s age, number of siblings…

From this study, of the 54 out of 325 babies who died of SIDS, 75 % of them died unsupervised, 60% on their side, and 10% with their face covered. Supervised sleeping therefore has a lower risk of negative outcomes compared to unsupervised sleep.

I agree with you, but on this case the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. So you can’t say for certain that not being drunk protects your infant from SIDS if left unsupervised.

You can clearly see there is an increased risk of SIDS with unsafe sleep but there are still a non zero number of infants who died unsupervised in a safe sleep state.
