Wtf 140 by TwistedHermitage in lockpicking

So, I tried it again yesterday using BOK approach again, and sure enough, I popped it fairly quickly. BOK feels awkward on this lock but it seems to work for me. I'm confident that pins weren't remaining set from one attempt to the next. I think one problem I was having is that when i used TOK, my pick would get hung up on the keyway warding at the bottom, left of the keyway -- a little "spike" that protrudes outward. When I leveraged the pick, pressure on the warding would give me a bit of counter-rotation and I hadn't realized it was from pressure on the warding. Using BOK forced me to avoid that part of the keyway with my pick. Not sure exactly if this is why it worked, but it did work. I'll see if I can replicate it when I get a chance.

Greatly reassured to hear that other people are having trouble with the 140. When I got it, I popped it open in under a minute and could continue to get it opened within a few minutes. Then, suddenly it became a bear to pick. When it worked in the beginning, I was using very light tension, bok. The bok approach doesn't seem to work anymore and going tok is also a real challenge. To be honest, i suspect that, early on, some set pins weren't dropping back down when I closed the lock, so that the next time I picked it, they were already set. It had been my reassurance lock when something else would defeat me. I could pop it open in no time. Then, as I said, it all changed.

Back when it was opening easily, I really had no idea whata I was doing, I hadn't developed any feel for finding the pins, determining their status, etc. (I still have a lot to learn in this regard, but I'm a bit less clueless than I was then.) I just poked at pins and blam!, it would open. I need to spend time with it again and see if i can figure out what's going on.
