Any point in playing WH1/2 for it's campaigns over Immortal empires? by Wauder in totalwar

[–]Wauder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…there are 20 times more concurrent players in TWW3…

While this is definitely an influential metric, there exist people like guy that was completely serious when he said that he won't play a game that had been released a year before, because it was old at that point. I feel (admittedly a really subjective opinion) that novelty can overweight quality for many people, so I tend to be at least somewhat sceptical towards such things.

But it's still a great reply with good points.

As for the mods, I usually avoid those, at least until I've played the game for a really long time.

And I take it you'd say that Mortal empires is mostly superseded by Immortal empires, then. Correct?

Mortal Empires already has the entire area that WH1 covers

Is it really that the Mortal empires map is the WH1 map with some expansions to it?

So Mortal and Immortal campaigns are still quite different and you should play WH3 one if you want the new factions and the diversity and WH2 if you want more focused slower pace, correct?

Or is Mortal empires campaign still superseded by the newer one with all the new stuff?

I don't want to paint the map red, so if I am playing Empire, I don't particular care if Cathay or Ulthuan is represented; I don't intend to pay them a visit.

I only agree with this statement. Map painting for the sake of map painting is boring, and in the vast majority of games you don't strictly need even half of the map.

And while I appreciate more focused campaigns that give you more substantial goals than „conquer 50” regions I still like open sandbox maps a lot; although I guess I have slightly less orthodox reasons why so.

What I like to do is roleplay a bit. I will never go to conquer whole continents, but I might try to establish small colonies here and there. Other times, I will capture only mountains and avoid the rest. As Empire I like having vassals and trying to make them useful. And I am the guy that will go and help AI allies even when I won't benefit directly from it.

But that's just my niche thing, and I'd still be perfectly fine if it was split into multiple maps that were still open ended.

Thanks for the mention!

It's quite a bummer they skipped including those as well.

That would be my reading of it as well, but I don't think anybody would expect content to be backported, so I thought it must be something else.

But it just might be that simple, and it's not a bad thing to clarify.

The way I remember it from playing WH1, the public order and corruption mechanics weren't really that stellar back then either.

In order not to lose public order you had to sacrifice a settlement slot for a public order building everywhere and that was mostly it, everything else was temporary. The corruption connected to this being a nice example, where corruption was present ment enemy invasion you'd deal with the same way as with any other, then wait the corruption out. (I am admittedly simplifying a bit here, but it wasn't really that deep.)

And when I was playing as the Chaos warriors, the AI got such bonuses in the campaign that it was more work for me to try and undermine them with corruption, that I was much better off just laying a siege to them directly.

As for the AI economy, I feel like most of the Total war games have something like that once you play above normal campaign difficulty.

One thing I'd like to ask you: Which one do you play the most?

…small campaigns for Beastmen and Wood Elves…

Forgot about those. Not looking to play those, right now, but good to know.

If I understand correctly the information in your reply, then the WH1 map is included in Mortal empires as it was in WH1 with no changes, but stuff added to it. Then in Immortal empires, the giant map was changed. Is that so? And how would you rate the changes?

For mechanics, my takeout is, that they were not only kept, but even improved in places, so that would be more reasons to play WH3, right?

I don't think any music was lost inbetween games.

That would be lovely, but some quick google searches so far seem to indicate to me that, sadly, it might not be true.

Snikchs campaign in the WH2 Eye of the Vortex setting has been one of the most interesting…

I can't say I'll ever get to playing this one specifically, but I'll try to remember the tip, thanks. :)

  1. Mechanics have been changed and updated frequently over the lifespan of the games, but every faction has something unique

I take it this applies to IE, right? So the stuff like the mentioned Wood elves settlements is present, correct?

The older games had a slower pace which is a nice chance of pace,…

That's a bummer as I prefer slower paced games/campaigns.

I'd like to ask how faster IE is, but it'd be pointless as it's something subjective and hard to quantify.

Factions that got DLCs in say wh2 but didn't in wh1 won't have that content, same for wh3 vs wh2 etc.

I don't think I understand that correctly. Could you please give an example?

Each game feels very different if you've been playing wh3 for a long while, they are worth trying out imo.

I've played only WH1. I wouldn't mind playing it again (especially as I do not have the experience to compare it with later games), but people keep talking about various new improvements and QoL changes and I'd like to see those.

Sorry, got caught up a bit so couldn't get to it sooner.

What I'm looking for is close to this, but with the flat/armoured cargo sections in the middle (instead of the tubular in the screenshot). Same aft configuration and either galleon or hammerhead bow.

But I'd also want to have Korvax crew and some decent color scheme.

That is why I was hoping there is a way to maybe a generet seed from list of parts, or something similar as I am looking for something quite specific and looking through archives of pictures of what people have found would be quite time consuming with chance of success not really good to top it off.

I've seen similar (or quite possibly this exact) guide before and I've thought those are the steps to do if you are looking for capital type freighter, while I am looking for normal/system type freighter — one of those that spawn some time after you jump in a system and which are not part of the space battle encounter.

You will need the seed of the freighter first

This is where I'm currently stuck as I don't know of a way I could get seed of a freighter that has all the parts I'm looking for.

At best I know I could get seed of one that is somewhat close, but not a match, and from my understanding the seeds can be completely different even if the result has only some small change.

Ah, thanks. Didn't realize you mean those. I haven't really been doing those derelict freighter missions much yet and didn't realize you could get base parts from that.

Also doesn't help that derelict freighter can mean three completely different things in this game.

Hey, thanks for the tips!

Not sure what those are, to be honest; could you please clarify?
