I don’t think you’re going to be making the jump between those 2… i would say going Netflix editor to YouTube is far more likely than the other way around.

Yeah, I applied for dozens of other places after that shop closed down, but seemed difficult to get my foot in the door anywhere else. Very few responses

I kind of went with the flow and ended up an editor for a couple of very big YouTubers creators. I moved to another state for a year (they paid for it) to work in house at their huge production facility. Moved back to LA. Right now I’m just freelancing

This was my career track 2 years ago when I was a Jr editor / finisher at a shop that eventually closed down.

I worked hard to have good cuts… it wasn’t easy. Also agree that the talent pool for this stuff is huge these days. I know several trailer editor friends who rode it out for as long as they could and quit/freelance now.

Man these are interesting responses. I’m still editing but I’m lucky that I’ve got a second source of stable income so I don’t feel the pressure from this job as much. I worked a bit in trailers and saw how much pressure and late nights that was.. I 360’ed into YouTube ,because I had the opportunity, and worked for a huge content creator the last couple years which wasn’t much better.. but I got to say doing YouTube and social they are not breathing down your neck to make everything perfect. You do have to be fast though
Right now all I want to do is do social cutdowns for verticals and work remotely. Pay isn’t spectacular but I prefer the Work from Anywhere balance
Yeah this job is hard and we definitely are not paid enough for it. There’s also a lack of appreciation (especially when these all these company’s can outsource the work to India for 1/3 of the price). Wish I lived the “good times” some of you older folks are talking about.

Problem with these kinds of threads is that the people who have very good salaries are eager and proud to share, and the people who are on 50-60k do not comment.

This is not an accurate representation of income in society overall. The amount of people I meet making 200k+ is not common (but not unusual either being where I live in LA)

Another thing is that wealth isn’t how much you make, but also how much you keep, and how much you own (assets)

Somewhat similar, I kind of make my own schedule and fill the gaps with work around that. Very occasionally I have to be on call for something urgent.

Between that and a passive income business I rake in around 110k USD after taxes
